wiper motor

    has anyone rebuilt one,mine has an internal short.also whats the best way to clean one(restore it).tpp has remanufacture ones but out of my budget at this time.....

    I see you are on Long Island, if you have a non-hidden wiper set up then I have a working original wiper motor from my '71 Skylark that you can have for real cheap.

    thanks but i do have the hidden wipers and a source for used originals,but to be honest i would eitheir want to rebuild mine if possible,or go new or nos.new ones seem to be incorrect in appearance(all black)

    I had "fixed" mine from my 72 skylark when the "shunt" field developed a short. Following the electrical schematices I managed to get the thing to "work". It was either on HI or not on. If I remember correctly I jumpered past the short.

    If you want original functionality, I think it would be worth your while to just get an original functioning unit. Thats what I did in the end. Took one off of a 68. So much easier. Kept my modified unit as a backup/parts unit.

    I don't know how to fix but to restore looks I lightly sanded mine and avoided damaging the decal with part and date code. I painted it with Eastwood detail gray which is a real close match to original finish.
