    Ring gear spacer

Ditch the ring gear spacer! There dangerous with any car with the torque of a big block buick especially when using slicks. This is only my opinion so lets see what others say.

How can you be easy on the drive train if you are using slicks. That 8.2 is dead meat, particulary with the ring gear spacer.

    10 bolt 8.2

Well if you have all the stuff. Give it a shot. With good installation It will probably hold for you I think the axles will give up first. Just becareful and keep your ears open and tuned to the car as you shuold when racing. If there is any question of a doubt do not run till you check it out. If anything will happen it will probably be instantly off the line. They are bolt in axles so it will most likely be a big clunk and a no GO...lol.

I am the type of person to prove people wrong but that is just me. Who did or is doing the install? Jim

    BUQUICK I'm your huckleberry.

Maybe I was lucky, but I put nearly 400 passes down the track on my '67 GS convertible with a stock 8.2" 10-bolt (cone style posi) & original GM 3.55 gears. However my car is probably not as fast as yours since mine is 100% stock appearing under the hood (cast iron intake and exhaust manifolds, Q-jet, etc). Car has super soft M/T ET Streets when at the track. Weight is over 3900 lbs. Best et so far is 12.10 @ 111.39, best 60' time ever has been 1.69 (the car still has a 400 trans with a factory stock Switch-pitch convertor).

The ring and pinion did finally break, several teeth broke off of the pinion and ring gear while turning a corner going about 10 mph while driving home from work one afternoon. However the rearend and gears had over 100,000 miles on them so I was not too upset.

The early Buick 8.2's housing was not designed to take the torque loads of a strong big block Buick & slicks. If it was, Buick engineers would have kept on using it as torque & hp levels rose. Instead, all GM division engineers realised the limits of all the different 8.2's, & opted to use stronger r/e's behind their highest torque offerings.

As parts, right now, a new 8.2 Pontiac ring & pinion set, & a pair of good (got to pull the bearings & ck em) axles are worth some money. When sold, the money could be applied towards a much stronger r/e.

    Got Posi?
