I have a 65 project Skylark. It has a v-6 and 2 speed auto. I have a line on a 425 Nailhead and want to use the tranny I have to save money for other items. Shouldn't this bolt up since the 401 was stock in the GS in 65?

Did the nailhead have the bigger transmission behind it in the Skylark GS? :Do No: Not a 2 spd. Someone on this board will have the answer. Not sure if the 2 spd. trans. behind the V6 will bolt to the 300? :Do No: Just here to learn from the experts on this board. Maybe scan the archives. With modern day adaptors anything is possible.

Yes, the 65 and 66 GS Skylark used the 2 speed ST 300 transmission. No, the Skylark ST 300 transmission behind a 225/300 engine will not bolt up to the 364/401/425 as the Nailhead had a different bolt pattern for the bell housing. The GS ST 300 was also given some upgrades like extra frictions to make it stronger behind the Nailhead.

.... but if you going to use a ST 300 or 400 put the converter from the V6 tranny into them. Better for performance applications.

should'nt be too hard to find a 66 st-400, that way ,you have a good three speed!
