Mine is a 1967 Buick Wildcat Custom, the only thing that is still missing is the pinstriping on the cheatline. It's not quite as nice as Roy's was above, but I'd say it's pretty close. It was assembled at Fairfax, and was sold new in Canada at Jimmy Pattison's Pontiac Buick dealership in Richmond BC (Vancouver area). It was stolen in Cranbrook in 1977 and once it resurfaced and was "recovered" in the late 80s, sent for scrap which is where I got it in 1990. I rescued it from a wrecker who was preparing to slaughter it. I traded a 1964 Olds Dynamic 88 sedan to get it. I preserved the Cat, attended to the mechanicals to get it reliable, and put a new rag on it and then started saving my pennies. But I then found I still didn't have enough to get it properly done. So I traded it along with my saved up cash for the Electra. Regretted the deal immediately and immensely, as the 1967 Cat Custom is a fairly rare car.(Only about 2200 built in that trim) The car came back to me all fixed up 10 years later; I traded an original condition dead-stock 1946 Buick Super for it. I was surprised to find the car had only done about 2000 miles in that 10 years, and that the drive-line was still the same way I had left it. I figure I'm the luckiest guy in the world to have this car.
My 1968, exported to Australia in 1987....daily driver condition, mechanically it's been very reliable, but it needs a head gasket this winter.... It gets driven around 3500 miles a year. It's a keeper, had it 4yrs now....a knockout from 20ft LOL, it does need some big $$$$ spent at the body and paint shop but I am a single dad with two teens to get through college first. Meantime it gets a **lot** of love out on the street down here. I am a huge fan of the 67/68 two-door hardtop style, especially one colour all-over without vinyl roof. This car has black-cherry metalflake in its future!
[QUOTE= I am a huge fan of the 67/68 two-door hardtop style, especially one colour all-over without vinyl roof. You and me both!
Here is one of our 66 Wildcat GS's that was in Muscle Car Review in 1990. I bought the car around 87.
These posts, especially yours, kiwidave, make me sad and wistful. About 1989 I saved a ‘68 Wildcat Custom, red (originally dark grey code v) with black bucket interior and no vinyl top from a junkyard in North Georgia. I dragged it to Athens, Cornelia, Lula, and Covington but it was ‘star crossed’, and I never drove it. Every time I found a little time or money, either the GS, one of the Trans Ams, the Cadillac, truck, or wife’s car would sense my wallet being less thin and act up. I sold it about six years ago and haven’t seen it since. I miss it. Patrick
Owned this one for over a yr and have not driven it more than a few miles. Probably only sat in her 1/2 dozen times. Hoping to put an end to that in the next couple of months.
My 67 WILDcat! Totally innocent looking with factory skirts, single tailpipe, bench seat& whitewalls on road wheels UNTIL Chamberlain worked his magic on it! 430 block,70 Stage 1 heads,B4B, all the tricks Quadrajet & distributor, power timed Kenne-Bell Window Rattler can, 3000 rpm Slingshot stall, posi out back. With the top down and 5 people in it it would still bark second & third gear. Was scary as hell at top speed with that much car and the sensitive power steering but boy O boy did I surprise several hot rods back in the day with her. Never forget the guy in the Chevelle one summer night at the stoplight “What’s wrong with that thing, why’s it sound like that?!” I told him it had some fouled plugs. He gave me one of those grunts (like what a rag!)and grinned over at his girl friend and gunned it on green, I hung back in first and then opened the secondaries and timed it so the MEAN WOT 2nd gear screamed right at his open window as I flew by! Man I love a sleeper! Had to nearly give her away along with a loaded 67 hardtop cat with buckets & console & loaded(non runner) though to get my non a/c 70 Stage 1 4 speed. Loved um both but still have a soft spot for the Wildcats!
Added this one to the stable last fall...almost bought it nearly 20 years ago with 10K original miles. Now has 18K on it. I'd say that's pretty light use in 51 years!
I've had my '68 Cat 1 of 2 since '77. When I got it had 8K on the clock. I know this is true because I went to the Buick dealer in Greenwich, Ct. & ordered it with the lady, who was my best friend's mother. It was my daily for a short time & went back & forth to Florida from Ct. a couple times. Today has 22K on it. I may put it up for sale at some point in time, but will offer it to her 2 boys 1st.
