Hi gang, sorry if this has been posted here before. I just ran across this today while cruising the information superhighway. This blog post describes some old one-off machined steel racing heads for a 425: candyshotrodsupply.blogspot.com/2010/01/buick-nailhead-after-market-heads.html For years now I've been daydreaming about new, improved aftermarket heads. I figure that with modern understanding of port and runner design, some minor improvements could be made to the nailhead configuration. I reckon the reason nobody's made new heads yet is because there's just not enough improvement that could be made without getting out of that pent-roof combustion chamber which is limiting the valve size. So then I think, "if somebody made an aftermarket wedge head that required different pistons (and no longer had the signature vertical valve covers), would anybody buy it?" On one hand, the nailhead's limitations are the things that give it its unique character. On the other hand, you've got this very strong, oversquare, relatively lightweight bottom end, and nothing you can put on top to really take advantage of it. anyway, just thinking out loud. -jeff

maybe, it needs; A Studebaker/Packard supercharger? And, some Nash seats? It made my head; spin uzzled: no. You're right. Maybe; dollar head. Those valves are as big as silver dollars
