The driver's side latch on my 70 Skylark convertible closes too far, if that makes sense?

I can see from outside of the car, due to the protrusion in the top, the handle is closing too far.

    Any ideas?

So you are seeing the actual handle protruding through the top material? The handle could be bent.

Yep Smartin, That's what I see. Soooo, I guess there is no adjustment? BFH?

I'm not terribly familiar with the A body latches, and would wait for someone who does to chime in for sure :)

Does the other latch look like it sits differently when in place?

It does. From the driver's seat, I can tell the driver's side goes deeper into the closed position than the passenger's side.

The handle stop has worn down and the rivets are worn. You can pull it off and weld the stop (extend) it so it does not latch too far.

Smokey15 So old that I use AARP bolts.

The "hook" that latches to the windshield frame is adjustable. Sounds like it is too far out requiring the handle to travel in too far to latch. Or, as already suggested, the handle could be bent upwards. Compare it to the other side.

Mine did the same thing on both sides. It's due to worn latches. There is Nothing you can adjust to fix. Hooks adjust tension only. I bought a set of latches from the parts place and it solved the problem ..

I've purchased some used latches from a board member. They look good but I've yet to install them.
