Why SOME (US) e-bayers refuse to sell in Canada ?

I goes so upset when I see this in e-bay auctions :af:

I mean , the sellers is gonna get paid in US money , US money order or PAYPAL (in US$ fund) whatever he prefer , the shipping is pay by the buyers (like any others in the planet) so their should be a concern here .... UPS & FeDex add some big fees at the end but that is not sellers fault (I've read a lot of complaint about UPS/Fedex on the board by US resident within US as well) , nonetheless they still could use USPS who is way more friendly but anyways if the parts is being shipped to and pay by the buyers

So why in the world some ebayers still refuse to sell/ship to Canada ?
By the way Canada is just North of US in North America , not in Africa , Asia or Australia

    GStage1 Always looking for parts!

    Ummmmm...because they are idiots! LOL

All it takes is about 2 mins to fill out the USPS Customs form for Canada.

I ship parts all over the world and use USPS for them and never, ever had a problem with parts being damaged or not arriving.

I would suggest you find a friend here in the US and have the parts sent to him and then have your friend ship the parts to you. I have done this for several Canadians and never had a problem.

I think they just don't want to go the extra work of going to the post office to fill out extra forms. It's really no big deal, just a couple minutes like George stated.

I'll agree with all the above and will add ignorance to the list.I have shipped to and received parts from Canada folks for a few years now with no problems,I even purchased a running Toyota engine to install on a buddy's son's car this past Summer(another reason my eng. still on the stand :boring: ),the whole process went just as described by the seller :TU: and the engine was as advertised :TU: :TU: .

I do see that alot on ebay.

I do not understand why they say that.

Hell i have sold and sent parts to a guy in greenland and have had no problems.

I had the money sent to my bank and the shipping was easy.

Some people are lazy, I guess......

...... and the 12 bolts diff

    That's an argument :Smarty:

But more seriously there is some folks who think Canada is a "foreign" country , has had problem with personal check (especially if they were in Canadian fund) .

US money order & Paypal are trouble free .

I have noticed that sometimes when you are registered in an other country you can not even bid on some items. I have a good friend in the US to whom I send all parts from sellers who dont want to ship outside the US. But if I cant even bid on stuff I cant have it shipped inside the US either.I cant be the only one who has a alternative shipping address in the US. This is too bad since a some sellers loose alot of money because of this.

You might also ask the seller about it too if they don't specifically state "no shipping to Canada". I'm sure some people just set up their auction incorrectly without realizing it.

When i'm ready to bid I ask the seller , in some case it may be a "default setting" instead of checking Worldwide , North & south America or Usa & Canada they have the Us only checked by default

I have shipped small items and even a 70 Caddy Convert to Sweden for a guy.The Caddilac would not even maybe had made my reserve if not for the Swedish guy bidding on it.I allow all countries to bid but there are alot of people out there that will not ship to places like Germany either. The reason for this is usually the cause of thier goverments or Media outlets that reflect on the people up there whether fair or not.It is a pain nonetheless to do international shipping but I include them as they help the bidding along but am usually relieved when they are outbid by a Local for a couple dollars more.I have had help from you guys up north getting me parts and appreciate it greatly and will do the same for you and have in the past.Alot of this is Political and I believe its your Media and Goverment that turn people off here from wanting to sell there.I myself hold no ill will towards the people up there as in my two visits there the people I met were great to me.You wanted to know why most will not ship there and what I have explained is the reason why most will not.

For UPS, the only other info they need is a recipient's phone number.

i sell alot on ebay , where i have shipped a number of things to canada .i am our shipping manager where i work and we use ups worldship , piece of cake . i do state in my listings i ship ups only . and somehow some buyers after the sale , will ask if i will send usps to beat customs , i even had a couple that wanted me to lie and send it as a gift , no value . who are we cheating ? although the best/smartest canadians have a address of a buddy or a mail box on this side of the boarder for this reason :TU:

This is kind of another approach on an old issue, that of UPS and their administration and "brokerage" fees. If a Canadian thinks he'll beat the customs fees by having items shipped by USPS, he's mistaken. Actually I don't think there ARE any customs fees payable on antique auto parts. But we DO have to pay Canadian sales taxes (at least the GST), I think they only apply after the first $75 of declared value. The old bigger problem, IMHO, is the brokerage/admin fees that UPS likes to apply, often taking the price of an item way up, sometimes to a multiple of the value of the part itself. Just depends on how bad one wants or needs the part. I for one will not bid on ANYTHING where the seller says they only use UPS, UNLESS it's a part I just HAVE to have and there's no other eway to get it here. Nothing against the seller, just things against UPS and their outrageous brokerage and admin fees. I personally don't know anyone in the US I'd be able to ask to receive and ship stuff to/from.

On the other issue, I personally don't ask sellers to mark it as a gift. If they get nailed, it's on them. Some do mark it that way, and it does avoid the tax issue. But if it were the other way around, I also wouldn't mark it as a gift if it wasn't. For the few dollars involved, it's not worth flaunting the law.

I agree with the rest of them there just lazy to fill out some paperwork. I ship all my parts worldwide. If the bidder ask to ship I will. The only thing I hate is some buyers get impatient while waiting and I have had to calm them down assuring them that there part has been shipped. Other than that I'd ship to the center of the earth if it was possible.

Like someone earlier said, some ads seem to default to USA only. Like Jarrod's current eBay ad for a GS Grille, where his ad says he ships to "United States only". This effectively blocks any bids from Canada, unless someone sends a PM to Jarrod, asks him if he will ship to Canada, then he has to modify the ad to also allow shipping to Canada, and accept bids from Canada!! :Dou:

I guess I have to be the lazy guy that does not ship outside of the US that has to speak up.

Keep in mind this goes for all countries. Not just Canada. I have ship a few items to Canada.

It is a big pain in the butt to have to deal with the Post Office. I do all my shipping using click and ship. If I have to go down in person and ship a package it takes at least a half an hour of my time and gas. How much do you guys get paid per hour? Should I charge an extra $10 or $20 for shipping? The Post Office calculator stinks for outside the US also. Shipping is always more than the item. If I get scammed I am out big time. I had a guy in south america that wanted some very heavy manuals. The manuals were only $30 and the shipping was $125. I did not trust that. I know some things have change with PayPal, but the Post Office needs to make things easier. Also, you get these guys that want you to lie on the custom forms (I know it sucks to pay extra, but those are the rules.

    Sorry Guys,

i guess im lazy too :Dou: but dont feel bad , as i said above , i ship thru my work where i get all the packing supplies (boxes , tape ) for free , plus i do it all while i'm on the clock . sweet . i dont have the time to go and find the best deal for the buyer . i do use our account and daily pickup so i can give a break on shipping costs . as for the cheating on values , i wont i'm not bitting it so someone can save a few bucks. i include copies of the ebay transaction so there is no question of value of the parts . i like ups because of convience of tracking and guaranteed delivery times , yet if we had another carrier at work i'd probaly use them .i barely have the patience to wait in line at the post office for a money order or stamps . and as for the click and ship calculations , its never acurate . a buddy of mine was doing that and coming up short everytime when he got to the centers. then you cant rebill the bidder , comes out of your pocket
