Why can't we agree to disagree

Its obvious that in the world we live in today there are many negative things going on. Without causing a stir I am curious as to why people can't just make statements to counter those which they do not believe to be true or they just think are downright wrong. Its seems that everything is backwards lately with the NEW getting pushed over the OLD in every way. If someone doesn't like what they hear or see fine but why does everyone else have to cater to this nonsense!

It’s not really, that’s the Media making you believe that your thinking is old and wrong, it’s being designed to do that.
Reality is that you, me and the rest of The Silent Majority are just that, silent. Standing our ground hoping it’s all truly BS, or worse case scenario they push us to the point we have no choice but to right this wrong. It’s kinda like we’re parents and our children are pushing the boundaries, sooner or later you have to deploy discipline....it’s coming, don’t lose faith and ignore the Media, they tried this in 2016 and we proved them wrong. We’ll do it again!

Yea it’s all opinions and very little “facts”, and it’s a ton of selective reporting that’s fits the narrative.

I've read a lot of history books, and some contemporary accounts from the various periods as well. It has been like this, repeatedly. Any time you have a mass media disseminating information with little or no rational oversight this is exactly what you get. This is social media today, which has replaced newspapers or rendered them redundant or irrelevant. Of course, a mass media controlled by a certain ideology or authority is just as bad, and that's where the parallels begin. Take a look at Soviet Russia or Nazi Germany. In each case, these two parties were dismissed as cranks and given a lot of "air time" just because the media thought they were laughable. Then through their concise reporting, all of a sudden these parties became popular because there is not, nor has there ever been a shortage of cranks who think they're smarter than everyone else except that no one has realized it yet. These are the ones who are into conspiracies and all sorts of funny half-baked ideas. All you need is a sense of humour and a willingness to lead someone on, and a company or two paying your bills to sway people to buy their crap by changing your attitude. The fringes make good use of these type of people. In modern times, think of the Russian troll farms who are largely responsible for manipulating social media any way they want to. There is also no shortage of loudmouths with opinions either, and since our education system purposely doesn't teach critical thinking at the Elementary and High School levels, so the amount of gullible people who are swayed by a certain argument soon becomes a movement. The fodder is almost limitless.
The end result is what you have now; a mess where people who previously could discuss things in a calm and rational manor now become polarized. The next step is when a "saviour" comes along promising "law and order" and a return to the old ways, - which is impossible, because the past is place that no one can go to and memories are always rose coloured and invariably wrong, because people complained just as much back then as they do now.
And again, history repeats...countless times, because each successive generation thinks it's unique and knows better but never took the time to really read the book and critically understand it.
    Sound familiar?
I'm going to stop here, because this thread can easily go off the rails, and I don't want to be the one pushing it.

My opinion, take it with a grain of salt:

Everyone has an opinion or an agenda, everyone wants to be right, and it has never before been easier to access information (accurate and truthful or not) that we feel supports our side on an issue. This empowers everyone to argue about everything.

Nick, I think that's a fair way to describe the bigger issue. Well said!

As for things not being like this before, just watch an early season of All in the Family. The arguments sound awful familiar to me?

Books are books and many facts were better researched today than back in time.

Consider a lot of my school time was wasted with gerogophy. countys we had to know the names of and capitals of for some reason today are no longer there in Aferica and Central America.

then History we were taught Comblus discovered the Americas, today that has been disproved.
Even back in the day they should have knowen the Natives came from some place well before the Eroupens.
