I need a camshaft for my 364 and all I can seem to find is a Sealed Power stock replacement and the local parts guy wants $140.00 for that, cam only! And he says I'm getting it at jobber price at that. Now don't get me wrong, if it were a new Isky or whoevers mild (read "streetable") grind I wouldn't think that price were too bad, or if it was for a stocker and lifters, fine. But a stocker shouldn't be that pricey, should it? So what else is available and from where? Need info. Thanks, Chuck
TA Performance Poston Buick Comp Cams Schneider Carmen Faso The stock 401 cam from Sealed power might actually work well on the smaller 364. The duration @ 0.050" is about 209 degrees on the stock 401-425 cam. There are some Nailhead cam specs posted in this thread: http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=30928&highlight=post+cam+specs
Problem is, there is only ONE company that makes new blanks in the U.S. & these are done 40 at a time as demand allows. So everyone has to order blanks from this one company. The sealed Power is a good choice for a 364, but very mild for a 401/425.
Carmen checks every camshaft on the cam doctor before it gets sent. he even sends you the report so you know the cam is ground correctly.
The Camshaft in my '407 Nailhead in my Model A was done for me by Bullet Cams. Call and talk to John Partridge, he knows the Nailhead. Here is a link to the website: http://www.bulletcams.com/ <a href="http://s267.photobucket.com/albums/ii283/LimeSqueezer/?action=view¤t=Squeezer009.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii283/LimeSqueezer/Squeezer009.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
I don't think anyone has mentioned Delta Cams in Tacoma, WA. They are primarily a regrinder and can weld and reharden, etc, as necessary. I'm running one of their cams in my 250 inline six, and so far it seems to be OK. They are not the go-to guys if you want them to develop a hot new grind, but if you know the specs you want and have a core, they can make it happen. Don't know their Buick prices, but my inline cam was $150 - on a new core and with a new set of solid lifters! Beat that! Their website is getting a rebuild, but their phone number is still displayed. BTW - they do lots of ricer cams, and my son has one is his Honda with quite a few miles on it, and all is well. Dan
Comp and Bullet have cores. So does Crower. Poston is out unless it's on the shelf. Isky will do regrinds but had only a couple of cores left. Just got my cam before ho ho day. Mike
