read that article too, looks like quite a stout car. $50K tho is quite a chunk of money for a mustang :Do No:

Lots of fun. But is a Mustang GT really filling? You know... you beat one and your still hungry.

Just think what you could do with the 50K to buy a Rustang....... Quite possibly build the baddest buick engine on the planet.....:3gears:

The new GTs are really not that quick. The Shelby is a whole different animal, and I expect to see them drop into the 11s with only a few bolt-ons. The stangs have a huge advantage in that every concievable part is available, and at reasonable prices. It's going to take a lot to beat a bolt-on Shelby with a good driver. That being said, I guess that less than 10% will be driven to their potential and a solid mid 12 second Buick that can dead hook will be a good match up.

A friend of mine bought a new Bullitt Mustang. It has the 320 horse engine vs. the stock GT engine of 306 horse if I remember. He never raced it with the stock engine but felt it lacked something. So he took it back to Ford and they bolted on their new Wipple supercharger and intercooler. All factory Ford parts and a warranty to boot. With the stock street tires he ran it last weekend in Phoenix in the 90+ degree heat to a string of 12.40's at 114+ mph with no traction in first or second and hitting the rev limiter. He was impressed. Especially considering he nailed 26 mpg to and from the track. He just called last night and had bought some sticky DOT and was running it again last night. I'm waiting for the call to see how it ran. I suspect if everything worked right he will be holding an 11 second timeslip. He said it drives like it did when it was completely stock... until you nail it. He sold a new Shelby GT500 to buy this car and he much prefers the Bullitt. Its lighter, more stealthy, handles much better and will outrun the Shelby.

Well the best et he could muster was a 12.17 at 114 mph. But the air temp was in the high 90's, the density altitude was well over 4,000 feet. He had trouble with his shifter also, so its going to the Ford garage for some fixing on Monday. Also on his 12.40 pass last week his 60' time was 1.86 with no traction. Yesterday his best 60' was a 1.68 but missed third gear and still ran a 12.47. If that pass would have been clean he could have brought home an 11 second time slip. Not bad for a new Mustang with a bolt on Ford Performance supercharger on an otherwise bone stock engine. Pretty impressive numbers. With the slightly taller rear tire (1/2 inch) he has to pull into 4th gear just before the traps with the stock 3.73 gears. By switching to a 4.10 rear gear he could be well into 4th gear and pulling better through the traps. Helping both et and mph.

4.10's were absolutely no advantage on two cars I've tried them on over 3.42's. One a BBB heavy car and one a Turbo

On street tires and on pump gas I'm getting 16 mpg city and 25 mpg highway I get the same ET/MPH numbers at the track in my Turbo with 3.42's and 26" tires (236X60X15).

My best ET on pump gas and street tires is 12.14 @ 114 mph spinning all through first until I hook in second. With a solid hooked launch the T and the above mentioned Ford will both go into the 11's. With stickey's spinning through a 1.86 60" I go 11.18-11.22 @ 122-123 mph on race gas or pump gas and alky.

Except I did it in my matching number rust free T that could be duplicated for $16-20K depending on the car you found.

Plus cops never even look at a chrome package Limited T (very stealthy).

My frame on resto 72 GS Stage1 with A/C runs 12.85 (basically stock motor) on street tires and pump gas. Doing all the work myself (except paint) I built it for $17K. Of course the fuel mileage ain't anywhere near the T.

That said the Bullit Stang is a cool looking car but I'm an "old guy" so I'd rather have a real 67-69 Stang any day. I do all my own work and the headaches of repairing a new car are not worth it. A 60's-70's is sooooooooo much cheaper to maintain and the ooooohhhh factor cannot be negated.

My 2 cents. Some like the new cars some like the old cars and some like both that's why we are here on this board.

Those new Stang GTs are not that fast at all. I saw a brand new one at the track running 14.9-15.0 all night long. SAD

Has any one seen a new challenger at the track?
    R/T or SRT8?
    stick vs auto?
wonder what real-life times are like compared to what you read-
    Just curious-

Beating a Mustang is great. I remember a couple years back when I was heading home from work driving a 70 Riv. 2 punks drive by laughing at me in that big ole ugly car. They were in a late 90's early 00's GT. I proceeded to catch up to them and almost run up their tail pipes! The passanger was looking over his shoulder with a look of fear as we entered the triple digits. They finally pulled over and let the big ole ugly car go by.
