I'm on the Z28 site. Those guys are creamin their jeans over the new Camaro. I can hardly wait to mess with one of them. Weather is finally good enough to go hunting up here.

Just saw my first three over the weekend...nice car, but...most likely the same mentality as a mustang owner. What are they packin' under the hood in those things?

How'd you do that? They just started production today, the 16th.

The article I read awhile back indicated that production started Feb 16, 2009 with estimated deliveries mid-March.

Heck I want one! They have a very nice modern suspention, 2 six speed auto tranny choices, 2 six speed manual choices. Killer brakes, 304 horse 273 ft lb. of torque V6 that gets 29 MPG for the base engine. 400 horse and 410 ft. lb. engine option, and a 426 HP 420 ft. lb. option, at the rear wheels.
The base price is around $24,000. Not too bad of a new hot rod for the money. What do you suppose that 426 Horse at the wheels would be in an early 70's fly wheel rating?

That's not wheel horsepower rating its SAE net. That means engine horsepower at temperature with underhood temps as in the real car with all excessories running. That 400hp is only 340 or so at the wheel. Still very good!

Whos going to be the first to kil one of these? I say the economy and summer 6.50 a gallon gas!

I would love to take one out with my turbo buick skymaro. I wonder if I could fit a turbo charged 455 in one. That would be cool to take a brand new camaro and put an old big block in it.

Hopefully I will see some around here pretty soon. I just hope they arent like some of the other new car guys, and think that they are the best thing since sliced bread.

I would love to see that one. I love that Skymaro! Might be interesting to see these things run. Figure out what the best optioned one would be and run it in the 1/4 mile. A lot of new cars out there are cool, would be fun, and are fast, but they are not 1/4 mile cars. They handle, stop, and have good top end, but not built for the 1/4 mile. With the MPG that these things get you know they don't have the gearing that you would want for a short race.
I still say they would be a lot of fun to drive. I also think that it's about time that GM built a car like this. An average man can buy one and have a good looking modern version of a muscle car. I think that staged70 was right though. It was a good idea when the decided to make them but the economy today combined with the fact that some people don't think that 29 MPG from the base and I think it's like 24 for the big engine is good enough. I figure that if it's fun to drive or it does a job, 15 MPG plus is gravy! And I drive 60 miles a day. My old Ford factory High Boy and my lifted Chevy trucks that got about 10 MPG would be a little hard for an every day driver now, but if I had that old High Boy I would still probably drive it a couple times a week (when the roads are too ugly for my 67 Buick).

    V8 A6: 4.7; 13.2 @ 105

You better be carrying some heat to take on the v-8's.

Got to se the working prototypes at Holden in Melbourne at the end of 2007. Awesome even at that early phase.

The first production car came off the line yesterday. The others were all pre-production cars.

So the pre-production camaro's were bought by very wealthy people, which makes sense considering where I spotted them.

I saw 3 of them last Thursday between Brighton and Holly. We are probably seeing a lot of manufacturer cars in SE Michigan. I hope a bunch of people like them. Personally I think both the Mustang and Challenger are better looking. Maybe they will grow on me.

I think the challenger is better looking too, but the LS motor in the Camaro would win me over. The potential is there for insane horsepower.
