This is 100% true, but the car is about 8 hours south of me, longer with winter road conditions. You have to do a little over the phone to get a feel of where the guy is at. If he said $1,100 and not $1,600, it'd be worth the drive with a grand in your pocket. Since he's that high and not budging over the phone, he's not going to drop to where I want him to be in person yet. Now it's a waiting game, because this thing isn't going anywhere from what I heard from him over the phone and it's been for sale for a long time already as I said.....because he obviously won't go under $1,600 in person either.
You're absolutely right Lucas, wait him out. It took me 3 years to get my 46 Buick; I'd go and talk to the guy in the spring and again in late summer. He finally realized I was the only one interested in his car and willing to talk cash. When he finally agreed to my price, I had the cash ready right on the spot, 'cuz that's the only chance you get.
