    Chris,
Yeah, I know 1.5F is way overkill, but at some point, it's going to get used to its full potential...you know, when I have the cash. It cost about $10 more than a 1F, and $25 more than a .5F, so I said why not?

I know I need more output from the alternator, I just don't really have the cash for it right now. This setup has worked for a year or so with no dead battery issues, but the battery is getting old, so we'll see what gets replaced first!

  4. pioneer head unit, still have the stock 58 AM radio in in place, the cd player is hidden out of site, 2 4"pioneer in the dash, made fibre glass kick panels with 6.5 pioneer, and a 12 kicker with a 400 clarion, not too loud, but good decent sound.

    Go Buick Go Woot!

Hey, I forgot about this thread...

I got some new audio toys since I last posted here (new alternator too.)

For the 2 door Buick, I picked up a Concept CC-2002 amp to drive my sub that I also kinda picked up a while back; a Blaupunkt VX12 or something like that. It'll handle 1200WRMS supposedly, so I'll be testing that. I'm not so much in the market for crazy SPL, but I think I just got a little crazy and wanted the power on tap kinda thing.

    Concept Amp Specs:
    RMS Power 200W x 2 @ 4 Ohm
    RMS Power 400W x 2 @ 2 Ohm
    RMS Power 800W x 1 @ 4 Ohm MONO
    Stable at 1 Ohm
    Signal-to-noise ratio: 100 dB
    Frequency Response: 5Hz - 50kHz
    Total harmonic distortion: 0.05%
    Continuously variable 0 - 18dB BASS boost
Built-in continuously variable 18dB per octave crossover
Remote bass level control port (remote RM-100 available separately)
    Input sensitivity: 100mV - 6V
    Platinum connectors
    Size: length x width x height: 430mm x 296mm x 60mm (16.93" x 11.66" x 2.37")

Since it was an ebay purchase, I went and hooked it up to check it and it seems mighty underrated to me. I contacted Concept asking what it puts out under a 1 ohm load, but they haven't gotten back to me yet.

I also picked up some stuff for my VW Camper. I got a Blaupunkt 4 channel amp from the ebay, and then some 6.5 inch Blaupunkt speakers for the rear, and Infinity 6x9's for the front. I must say though, that the Blaupunkt speakers aren't doing it for me like I thought they would. The supposedly take 120WRMS, and with only 100W going to them, I was expecting more. They have a nice clear and crisp sound, but just not very much bass response...they bottom out easily. I've adjusted the amp to limit the frequency they operate at, and it makes them sound good. The infinity's though are just kick ass! They're unamplified just running off the head unit (Blaupunkt again, shocka) and have amazing sound...I almost don't need a sub in there...almost. The sub I have in there I just took out of the Buick. It's an infinity 12" being driven off the other two channels of the amp.

    Blaupunkt Amp:
    4/3/2 channel audio amplifier
    4 x 100W RMS or 2 x 300W RMS @ 0.1% THD
    ThermalThrottle full-on power assurance
2 ohms stable (in bridged & non-bridged mode)
    RCA type inputs
    0.3-8.0 VRMS input capability
Continuously variable High-Pass & Low Pass crossover settings 50-250 Hz
    Frequency responce: 15-50,000 Hz
    S/N >100 dBA at full power @ 0.1% THD, > 80 dBA (1W @ 1kHz)

    6.5 inch speakers:
    Power Handling: 240W max./120W RMS
    Frequency Response: 50-22,000 Hz
    Sensitivity: 91dB (2.83V/1m)/88 dB (1W/1m)
    Thiele/Small Parameters: fs = 122 Hz, Qts = 1.09, Vas = 0.08 ft3.
    Impedance: 4 Ohms
Woofer Magnet: 11.3 oz. Barium Ferrite
Woofer voice coil diameter: 3.0 inch

Wow, that ended up being kinda long!
    Any opinions?

I have a 250 watt stereo in my Electra, currently 4 speakers.

Infinity 6x9 3-way in the rear, 100 watts RMS.

Infinity 3.5 in the front, under the dash, 25 watts RMS.

Profile Ap600 amplifier (cheap and very good, good reviews on crutchfield)

I use a Kenwood KDC-MPV5025 as the head unit, which gives 22 watts RMS x4 channels.

The front two speakers are just about maxed out, and there is really nothing more than can be done with them, since the RMS is 25 watts, and the head unit is capable of 22 watts RMS. The rear speakers each have 100 watts from the amplifier. They have a tremendous bass response, most people think I have subwoofers in the car, haha. Since I no longer use the amplified rear speaker leads on the head unit, I will probably add two more speakers into the rear doors, I don't know what size though.

Amplification is the key to good clear sound.

Yeah, the infinity 6x9's are awesome! I have supposedly only 45W going to each of them (reference 9613) and it really sounds like I have a sub (when the sub is turned off anyway.) I think the amp might be underrated given its size and weight and comparing it to the size and weight of other amps that supposedly put out only 45-50W per channel. :Do No:

Out of curiosity, do you have the reference's or the kappa's?

I have reference series in my Buick and kappa in my Lincoln. Once amplified the 6x9 reference produce even more bass.

I was hoping to use the Soundstream amp for a 6 channel amp but I think this may be a problem. I wanted to use the two sub channel 4 volt pre outs but the switches are confussing and I may need to use this as a 5 channel amp :ball: , AL.

    SoundStream D'Artagnan 5.1 Trash!!!

Well I've had enough and think I'm goung to trash this amplifier! Soundsteam's owner's manual has no wiring diagrams, Soundsteam's tech support SUCKS!!!! It looks like this is a 5 channel amp and having a head unit with 6 pre outs (2 for sub channels) is worthless! Why would Soundstream build a high end amp with one sub input? My head unit has two sub outs what do I do with the other line input it up my :moonu: !!! I've had it with this problem and it's going in the trash! A shame because it's new! AL.

    Soundstream D'Artagnan 5.1

This has been a real roller coaster for me, now I find I can use this amplifier. I jointed a audiofile board called MP3 CAR.COM and there is a super bunch over there. One member made a post telling me to look at page 7 in my owner's manual and there was a subject on the Alpine head unit switching a stereo output to a mono signal. And the single source wire to the sub is not a problem to wire, just bridge the subwoofer terminals to have 4 ohm resistance. Mike (78ParkAvenue) was right on on the setting on the switches listed below.

21 should be switched to 6
22 should be switched to 1&2
23 should be switched to 3&4

It now is begaining to make sense, Thanks Mike!!!! :beer

Also my thanks go out to Rich (monsterbuick462) for his help on this problem and amplifier selection.

Both you guys went out of your way to help and if I can return the favor I wiil do the same for you guys :beer , AL.
