OK, I did the search now that I know what to search on. From reading the posts it appears to be beyond my capabilities. I'm not sure I would want to pay a trannyshop to do the work, nor do I know of one capable of making it work properly. After reading about vibration and shift points, TV cable setup, OD lockup, and BM shift kits, I'd worry that I'm making my very nice riding '65 Skylark into a problem child. I really appreciate the advice given here. I guess I'll take my ST300 to another tranny shop and ask them the seal it up...again. Greg
Lucas makes an effective tranny additive that really helps those seals to stay sealed. Worked real well on mine.
There no way I'd put that trans back in if I had to go thru the trouble of taking it out. My opinion. It's all good.:3gears:
I really wish I could find that vintage article about drilling out the separator plate on the ST300 to make it shift faster. Showed exactly which holes to drill out. I don't know what I did with it or who I got it from... o No: ou:
Jim, just make a request with a new thread in the trans section. I'm sure there's a bunch of people here who have this information for you.
Try PM'ing Mark Deconti (dcm422) He could probably tell you. Mark is the NE GS/GN Club transmission expert. Makes his own shift kit and they work.
Doesn't really make that much difference to me. I already swapped my ST300 over 15 yrs ago for a TH350. Now looking to go to a 200-4r :beers2: :3gears: (3gears smiley should be 4 gears, LOL) Just wish I could pass some good info along to help someone out who might want it... It was definitely an old magazine article...I'm going to have to dig out some of my old hard drives and see if I can find it...I know I posted it somewhere(I think it was on the old GSCA bulletin board years ago) and I think I emailed it to a few people as well. hmmm...
Jim PM me your address and I can send you a copy of the 66 GS build up they did that includes the trans mods, thanks Bill.
For the most part, the only thing my tranny guy re-uses on a race rebuild is the valvebody (and case depending). There are times when you can just buy the VB for $100-200 and use any-old 200r4 core. I would totaly go with the 4-speed with that 11-1 (I wish my car had it). After that the TH200r4 is your best bet. Low gear, OD. loc-up..... The best build is a TH200. Lighter and less HP... ..
