I've read a number of threads relating to steering boxes, but I didn't see one where the general question is posted regarding the various options for rebuilding or purchasing a "new" unit. I have a '69 GS400 with the original 17:1 (4 turn) power steering gear box. It's now leaking like a sieve so it's time to take action. My GS400 is a driver car. The numbers match, but other than that I have no plans to restore it as a show piece. I do want to put a quick ratio box in.

I see some have sent their boxes into places like powersteering.com for a rebuild/upgrade and others have purchased from carhex. Still others have purchased aftermarket units. I'm not looking for the absolute least expensive solution, but I likewise don't want a cobbled together solution or an auto parts store generic box. Similarly, I don't take the car to the track or strip, so I don't need the absolute finest steering box made. I'd like to hear what others similarly situated have done and whether they are happy with their decision.

Lots of threads on this. Obviously, you have read a few of them. I've used the parts store 69 SS Chevelle box on one of my cars and it is drop in, bolt on and go for a decent price. 2.6-ish turns lock to lock.
