I got a 425 nailhead I'm getting rebuilt next month and just wondering and looking for advice on which intake I should look for .......I was leaning towards one that Rick Martin has that's a 4 2 barrels because I never see them andwhich adds to the cool factor but my dad thinks it would be hard to synchronize all the carbs or should I do what everyone does and put on 2 4 barrels
    Thanks much

Performance wise, it would be difficult to beat a ported single 4bbl or dual quad Edelbrock/Eelco setup. Everytime you add an additional carb into the equation, it gets that much harder to properly tune.

Three two barrel carbs. I would recommend GTO carbs and a low rise manifold if the engine is going into a Skylark. The front and rear GTO carbs don't have idle circuits and you only adjust the middle carb. Using progressive linkage is very rewarding, when you floor it all three open up together at full throttle. During normal driving just the center carb is used. This is the best looking setup, if you are only concerned about looks. If you want performance get a Q-jet.

x 2 on the Quadrajet. But I'm biased.

If,, If, I was going to use a multi carb set up,,, which I aint,,, I would do what Kurt says and use the 3x2 set up... but,, my favorite is the nascar 3 barrel holleys on a single Doc mod manifold,,, that way there is 1 aircleaner, one set of linkage... ext.... way less hassle..... and the 3 barrels flow a bunch ,,, 950 cfm or 1050 cfm,,, Rhett..... btw are you gonna ever try the 3 barrel I sent you... ?????

We all know how Doc feels about the Holly 3 barrel great big carb, but for bling and looks go with the duals ,triples or hillborn, but for complete performance a BBB 800 cfm Q-jet. That is a one year and last manifold 1966 for the nailhead. Could get pricy, do the dual plane Doc mod and port match and clean up the runners. With 3.08 or 3.23 gears + switch pitch+ Q- jet = economy,if you can stay out of the secondaries and performance if you want to step on it. The best of both worlds the primaries are half dollar size and secondaries are silver dolllar size. The Q-jet carb worked so well that it was the precurser to FI. of course that my opinion.

    Doc -

Yes yes yes yes yes. Gonna put that 3 barrel on and use it in anger. It will ultimately become part of the whole comparison - inlcluding Tommy's 4150, my 750 and 800 Q-Jets and all the manifold configurations.

In fact, day after tomorrow getting a lot of baseline comparisons out of the way, but no squarebore stuff. Not yet. More to come.

Ok so I do want performance and my motor was in a 66 riv and I am gonna be running a ford 9" with 3.89 gear so I guess keep it stock is the answer I'm looking for

Yes , they have,,, simplest way is the self contained units like the holly 4 bbl unit that just takes the place of the carb... but too pricey for me...cause I am po.....

Here's a nice setup in Marty's '40 chev street rod. It's an Edelblock intake with injector bungs welded on and an Accel based FI system.

I would really like to buy the two inline intakes from the fellow that makes them and the valve covers. Krieg I think? Then 8 webers with fully ported heads and a hot street cam and a .....whops I better stop there
