I was following a previous thread concerning ignition boxes. I believe it was Brian Trick that replied and differentiated between two MSD parts numbers. One eliminated the mechanical advance and allowed you to program your advance curve. I am running a remanufactured HEI distributor with the MSD kit, including cap, rotor, coil, and module with rev limiter and would like this option. Engine is a 462 with mild Isky 268 Supercam . Any assistance is greatly appreciated. Thank you, JIM/Rott
Searching with my Summit app, I found 2 MSD 6AL-2 boxes that allow programming with a laptop with an additional usb adapter . MSD 6530 and MSD 65303. Which should I drop my coin on? Jim
With either box, you will need to lock out your distributor. Looks like the 65303 programs everything through a PC. The 6530 has rotary dials for some features.
I got an idea from Silverbuick a while back. What he did was remove the weights and springs. He then moved the distributor to full advance and made a metal plate that fit over the weight pins. The plate held it locked out, and fit under the rotor. It takes a little fabrication. The nice thing about it is that it is reversible.
Strangely enough, when I start a conversation and search for Silverbuick , I don't find him? Read plenty of his posts, what gives?
Here's a picture of what you need to do, http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e313/TheSilverBuick/Facebook/Skylark Work III/10687081_10204346612279078_945395406217140018_n.jpg The guy I'm talking about is Thesilverbuick. http://www.v8buick.com/index.php?members/thesilverbuick.20994/
All over it as usual. I'm deep into a blender of Margaritas, so I'll take a peek at the photobucket pics in the AM. Thanks Larry , appreciated, Jim
