Have here a used Buick 350 which I've taken apart to freshen up (hone, bearings, rings, gaskets, etc) before I use it. It consists of... Block: 1241748 ('70s) Heads: 1382546 ('68 or '69?) Cam: Kenne-Bell Mark 1H Valvetrain: hydraulic lifters, hollow adjustable pushrods, stamped steel rockers The lifters are a bit worn, so I want to replace them before I put the top end back together. RockAuto listed a Sealed Power HT969, which fit the description and looked right in the pictures, but upon arrival was completely different (diameter too large to fit the block, for starters). Can anyone advise what would be the correct lifter for this application?
The lifters are broken into the cam that was surfaced heat treated to withstand the break in process. Chances are that if in you try to break in a new set of lifters on an old cam, that cam will more than likely fail. When a cam fails, it will take out the new lifters with it when the lobes go flat, sending all kinds of metal through the engine sending all your time and $$ down the drain. Of coarse its possible for the old cam to survive another break in process without having it re-heat treated BUT you have to ask yourself, do I feel lucky?
With such a mild cam with low spring psi you'll be fine imo, just treat break-in as you would with a new cam. I've done several even a couple with over 320lbs dual springs,..those were risky yes
