    Hello all,
I’m progressing nicely on my first paint job. At what point in my surface prep should I start using a guide coat. After 120 grit or later.
    Thanks! Allen

Here’s the quick and dirty advice I just got from a longtime friend

1)Prefer any bondo work on steel vs paint. Sand to your liking to 120gr
2)After all bondo is done hit with 2-part epoxy primer to seal
3)fix any minor imperfections ie nicks gouges bugs dust bits
    4) Slick sand coat followed by 220gr wet to smooth it out
5)2k primer coat and 400gr wet
    6) Paint single or base/clear
    7) wetsand 1200 -2000 then 3 part buffing a-b-c.

That’s my plan for my next paint job. Good luck, feel free to correct from the experts.

Guide coat is used each time you prime, or when changing grits during blocking, I generally am done with the guide coating after Ive wet blocked with 320 for the last time and then I go to semi firm and soft sponges
