When to run a stall converter?

Will I need to mill the intake side of the head or the intake so my intake aligns properly? I've heard of other guys having trouble with this when they get their heads milled.

You can get around the by using rtv on front and rear intake seal rails, and you can open up the 4 corner bolt holes at bottom.once it squished gasket a little, the othe bolt holes should line up.

20201122_212334.jpg duration is quite a bit higher than advertised. Will this work to my advantage when dealing with my compression issues or make it worse?

Intake gaskets are steel. Will it still "squish "

Yes. It will, you can see the beveled outlines around ports. They flatten out. But I would think the composite would really be better for the intake. .
Good part is that as long as you don’t over tighten, the steel gasket can be reused. I have . Just clean it well. Did you get new valve springs? Would be best for a higher lift cam.
They have a new cam grinder, may be a revised version. I would say it should do well. Came in a crower box?
Probably contact ta performance just in case.

Yes I did get new springs. I'm also going to do a gasket match porting job on the heads and clean up the valve areas. My brother who has ported heads will be helping me. I have a set of bits coming from summit.

The thought of possibly having my parts not line up because of milling the head is giving me anxiety lol. I spent alot of money on this stuff. I hope everything works.. might just take. 020 off head.. would that make a difference on alignment? Or am I definitely going to be okay with .030?

If your comfortable with just .020 do that. You are still close for cam. .030 should not be an issue in my opinion, somewhere around.050-.060 would be. as far as porting,
From what I was told , leave the floor just open sides, and first 1/4 inch of roof you need to straighten and raise . Then go into valve area, which is gonna be the bottle neck anyway and where a lot of gains will come from. Here’s my pro ported heads with 2 inch valves.

Did you scroll up above to see the pic of the cam specs that came with my cam? The duration is way higher than advertised. My brother thinks it's fine. I dont understand all this stuff yet so...second opinion

Sorry I see your response above. It did come in a crower box

It does seem high. It will change the cam characteristics. I would double check with ta performance

That advertised duration is wrong for a TA 284-88H, should be 284/288. What is the duration at .050 listed on the card?

It’s gonna be lopey if it’s right, probably idle up around 900. It should work well with the single plane. May have less torque down low . Sounds like fun thou

Test fit the intake after the heads are milled and then order the right thickness TA composite intake gaskets so it fits nice.... I also suggest this valleypan cover. Top left: Buick performance parts (automachperf.com)

Save your old valley pan, you can just modify that if needed.
Back to the cam. I’m kinda interested in those specs. Post the rest of cam card. This “new grind”. With short lift and a lot of duration reminds me of the old kennebell 107 rattler.

Some interesting stuff. You should contact ta about the cam and the intake gaske for single plane.
I am interested in knowing what is up with the big duration.

I'll trust that it is what I ordered...

    My brothers response:

"Dude look at the pic that shows the lobe shape. It gets very flat and long on the sides. Some companies measured at .04 and some at .06 - that's a LOT of duration difference in that flat area of the curve, so the standard became .50, but nobody ever measured the whole duration to .0000 - but that's usually on a cam card, and that's what you're seeing as "298" I'm kinda surprised your card doesn't include the "advertised " duration with marks on the lobes, and info if it is measured at .06 or .04, but it doesn't really matter much. Identical cams measured at those lifts could be called a 284 or a 292."

Should I get a new oil pick up tube or just clean my screen and reuse?

My lift is it at .475 right? I'm okay with a big cam but is this thing going to be streetable...? will this cam work for me at 9:1 compression? Will my stock valve train other than springs still be okay?
