a brief search on the web has a fair number of people saying the 80s, but I sure thought it was somewhere in the mid to late 70's. Found a couple of sites agreeing with me. I was a kid then, but I seem to recall around car paints showing much more orange peel, say by 78???
    What say you all?

I believe that my '81 cutlass supreme brougham was painted in acrylic lacquer. Had a lot of spider webbing.

G-Bodies were, I believe, the last to have Acrylic Lacquer. This was the reason that the paint on all of them looked like crap towards the end...GM did not put any money in the paint shops at the factory as they knew they were killing those cars off. Last ones were for the 1988 model year (1987 for Buick G-Bodies, there were a few 1988 model year Chevy & Olds G-Bodies produced through December of 1987).

I believe this is correct. I know my '78 Cutlass had it. It crazed all over all the flat surfaces, and I had to buff and wax it 3 times a summer just to keep it decent looking.

My '87 GN was built in July. It is painted in lacquer. It looked great at delivery time, it didn't take too many years for it to crack and stain.
