I have used Scrubbing Bubbles for years on my bathroom chrome fittings. works wonders. why not try it on my chrome 15 x8 Buick ralley wheels . worked great. it contains no caustic materials and say It works on multiple materials including chrome. you engineering guys have a look and let us know if this safe for our Buick wheels. thanks. Kenny
I think one critical issue with cleaning aluminum wheels is whether the wheel has a protective clear coat. Most do, but some older ones do not. Aluminum and aluminum alloys do weather and corrode and that is why most aluminum wheels have a clear coat. I forgot what the stuff is made of - possibly a polyurethane type of clear coating - and it helps keep the aluminum from weathering. The cleaner you use needs to not attack or scratch the coating. I do not know about the Dow scrubbing bubbles, but I would certainly check to see if the warning label or instructions mention anything about use on aluminum or certain coatings or surfaces.
contacted mfg and the main cleaning ing is lactic acid. You enginering guys need to let us know about lactic acid. harmful or not. than Kenny 462.
The plastic chrome plated drain overflow in our bathtub was eaten by scrubbing bubbles. That's when I learned how acidic this stuff is. I have since replaced the cover and stopped using scrubbing bubbles and no longer have any chrome pitting problems. U.M.M.V.
Bon ami cleanser great on chrome. Will not scratch. Do not sub with comet or other brands, they will scratch. Hvram
So who are "you engineering guys" supposed to be? And why would/should they know anything about lactic acid?
actually found using the MagicSponge/MagicEraser to be a very easy way to clean chrome; then in areas that are somewhat pitted or even have some rust, I use Quick-Glo www.quick-glo.com . Found this years ago on the Jay Leno Garage website and it is awesome;plus is leaves a very nice shine and coating afterwards. And it is made by a small family owned business to boot.
I use the same car wash soap I use on the body:beer Chrome is a pretty hard surface, so I would think the only thing that would ruin (scratch) it would be a course abrasive (mechanical cleaning) A chemical would have to be damn caustic to ruin chrome, and I cant see any household cleaner being THAT caustico No: Is your chrome that bad?
I used the bubbles to scrub off 15 yrs of crud on the int of the latest truck Im working on. Worked fast and pretty good + left it with a fresh clean smell.
