On the far left of my dash, there is a round knob. Just to the left of the speedo warning adjust (marked accessory!)
It pulls out in two step's like an old headlight switch, but it does not turn.
Nothing seems to happen, & my ebay purchased owners manual hasn't arrived yet.
    Anyone know what it does?

Is this button plain chrome, or does it have a red lens in the center? I had a '58 Limited, which has essentially the same dash, and it had a knob where your appears to be, that pulled out. It had a red lens that lit up when the knob was pulled, and it activated four-way flashers. The knob was a near match to the other knobs on the dash, so I believe it may have been a dealer-installed option. I think I'd look for wires, and see if there's a flasher in the circuit somewhere.

we believe you are referring to the front/rear speaker fader acc control knob. It pulls out for front speaker or out more for both front and rear (deck lid) speaker control. You can also adjust the balance and volume as well. This was a factory acc item and was usually dealer installed.

… it you can position yourself and look up under that area of the dash you will see I believe will be at least 3 wires. Two go to the radio and one goes to the rear speaker. My previous post implied it controls the volume as well. This was incorrect. It is a speaker selection knob for either front or rear or front/rear balance. If you have this knob then you most likely have a rear deck speaker.

By all means get your radio working. Most of the time it is one or more of the vacuum tubes. If it is the virberator this can be replaced as well. The 1957 Buick Sonomatic was one of the first Transistor/Tube combo radios. Most cities can be found some kind of an older electronics store where the tube can be had and some still have tube testers, or I have found them on the web. The radio is very easy to remove by just removing the top center section of the padded dash. Get a shop manual where it shows the location of the various easily assessable philip headed screws that you need to remove. The radio is then very assessable. The rear speaker is accessible from inside the trunk. - Hope this helps you out.

Edit: To remove the handle knob there is a small hex inset screw located at the very bottom ( 6:00 position ) of the knob. Remove this then the outer bezel which at this point is self evident in what needs to be done. Be careful not to Hacky-Motto the wires in the back. Take your time and use your eyes and head and the project should go smoothly.
