Hi Doc, I spoke at length with Tom T this morning about this. His suggestion is to look at how the oil is getting to (or not getting to) the rocker arm. I think you suggested something similar.

Tom gave me a few additional pointers about correct shouldered bolts so as to permit proper oil flow. I will report my findings next weekend. Seeking my Inspector Clouseau chapeau.............:pp

Bummer.. wonder whether oil will reach the rocker arm.... Isn't it an option to remove the valve covers and the ignition and check it with a cordless screw/drill driver on the oil pump?

Mark and I discussed this recurrence today. Next week, on my way to BPG, I am taking the car back to the shop who worked on the engine, D & R Engines for them to rectify the problem.

After that, I just might consider selling it and moving on.................................

Time for an update.:Smarty: The car has been at D & R engines since last Tuesday. I will definitely back up Mark's earlier comment about this shop's quality and cleanliness, plus add just how good the people who work there are.:TU: I got a great tour of their facility, as well as learned a few things about how machining gets done. :beer Everyone I spoke with took the time to willingly talk with me. In my books, that's a great shop, worth repeat business. Several employees now have BPG T-Shirts, compliments of yours truly.

Moving on to nuts and bolts, it appears that both Tom and Doc were onto the answer, even if my stone hard skull wouldn't readily accept it. I visited with the fine people at D & R last week when delivering the car, and again today. Several other push rods showed definite wear. In fact, two passes with a file were sufficient to see that these parts were not properly hardened. The part supplier was then informed, and he apologized profusely, plus he immediately contacted anyone else who might have similar questionable parts.:beer A new set of hardened, adjustable push rods from another supplier were delivered late last week.

As the investigation deepened, it was found that a few rockers had slight wear from push rods "walking" around inside the socket. Therefore, a new set of rocker arms were delivered today. The rocker shafts are in excellent condition, so they will be used again. There was another oil analysis done last week, which showed the above wear. Some good news with the WIX filter doing a great job retaining most of the particles. Randy from D & R and I had a phone conversation with the company who did the analysis where we discussed the results in some detail. It was decided that no further tearing into the engine would be done at this time.

The car should be reassembled and ready to go Tuesday morning. :beers2: That means one extra night on the road for me, but that's the way it goes. I plan to trailer the car home, and drive it carefully for a while. BTW, those 3.90 gears will be going away quite soon, (I hope).

As for the AC system, it's something to deal with at another time, after a 3.23 or 3.36 posi goes in.

It is not, nor has it ever been my intent to initiate a flame war about where parts are made, who's zooming who on parts, or starting a pissing war about this issue. Throughout this entire ordeal, it's only been about finding a solution. Hopefully, it has been realized. Further updates will follow after some drive time.

It is good to see that you have it sorted out....a nailhead is normally a very tough engine,,, when one of them fails, there is usually a reason why.... and that is the trick ,,, to find the why..... be sure to keep zinc in the oil.....:Brow::laugh:

:gp: Having driven one that spent 400 miles coming apart to the point where it limped into my garage on 6 cylinders after the rocker shaft broke into 3 pieces, I would definitely have to agree...
