attempting to change trans fluid ruins my whole day. New trans time?

Whats in a valve body kit?
    What filter to use?

Thinking of chaning my filter n fluid. When looking up parts at advancedauto they have valve body kits $40 off, but give no pic or details on whats in it. Is it like a shift kit?

Didn't know if it worth buying one at that price. $14

Was gonna change my filter n fluid as I seem to have a sticky valve body.
If I sit in gear at a light to long it doesn't want to shift into 3rd, itwill rev out 2nd allot higher. but manually put into N then down to first seems to unstick it and it shifts fine again.

Car shift fine and hard like it should but seems to get sticky when I sit to long in gear not moving.

Modulator valve is new, all hoses for it are secured tight with zip ties.

dont bother with b&m ,they are usually just a seperator plate and gasket
get a good one with springs
    trans-go maybe?
it will be around 80 bucks for a good one

    Its not B&M

    Pioneer Prods. Valve Body Kit
    Part Number: 765010

And its called a valve body kit, in it own section,
Their is a shift kit section too. Here is a list of the catagories to chose form.
You can see they have their own section. Why I wonderd what a valve body kit is? As its not listed in the shift kit section.

    Transmission Shift Kit
    M/T Gasket Set
    Transmission Snap Ring
    Mount, Engine
    Transmission Solenoid
    Mount, Transmission
    Transmission Spark Control Switch
    Overdrive Relay
    Transmission Sprag Assembly
    Torque Converter
    Transmission Temperature Gauge
    Torque Converter Lock-Out Relay
    Transmission Temperature Sensor
    Transfer Case Motor
    Transmission Tools
    Transmission Band Kit
    Transmission Valve Body Kit

    So how F'ed am I???

Went to the store n got a jug of fluid and a trans filter kit. Also pick up a bottle of seafoam trans flush. Says to drive for atleast 5 miles shifting though all the gears then change or flush fluid.

I did all that and get home and see smoke. Look under and trans fluid is running out. Look like it coming from my front seal area. WTF I mean come on, WTH........

Stuff smelled like nothing but rubbin alcohol with a touch of red dye. Pour some out and it evporated with in a min. How in the heck could of that messed things up in such a short time?

So a $6 can of stuff is gonna cost me $1500????

I've only used seafoam in the fuel system. I pour it in a full tank and run it through. Don't know if it's doing what it's suppose to i.e. clean out the carbon, varnish and such from the fuel lines and cylinders. But I don't have any issues with my cars running poorly. Maybe they're not all gummed/carboned up. I do it every spring when I take it out of storage.

They say you can pour it in the carb or with oil as well, but I'm not that much of a risk taker.

Yea it works wonders in fuel systems, only folks I know that use it in the oil is on the Subaru boards. Its they sure fire way to cure the tick of death. They got tiny lifter passages or something n they gum up.

The gas stuff I know works, first time I tried the trans stuff.
Might be the last time for either though.

So did you drain some fluid out before pouring in the Seafoam? Maybe you just overfilled the trans and when it heated up, it came out the vent.

Naaa itsn't over full, it lost enough fluid that when I went to move it a few ago it didn't wanna move till I gave it some gas so it lost allot.

i bet the seafoam ate up the old seal
that stuff aint mechanic in a bottle like everyone thinks
drain the fluid and pull trans ,pop in a new seal
not that hard and shouldn t cost 1500 if trans still works
i would get that stuff out of the trans

Well reason I was doing that is its been acting up at times like the valve body is sticky?

If I sit in gear to long at a light or bank in gear, 2nd gear will start to hang n rev out real high till it shifts, or it won't shift into 3rd at all. But when I stop if I run it through the gears up n down before I take back off it shifts fine. Had been ok for a long time as I have been membering for last few month to shift up n down at a stop, then I went to mcdonalds n waited in line a real long time and it didn't like it.

So thought id do a flush in filter change to maybe help. As it shift hard and firm like it should. Just seems to be sticky. But its getting to be where I just wanna buy a new one now as I don't wanna go down the road of replacing stuff on a trans. As one thing will lead to the next.

    Already looking

    $900 TCI street fighter trans
$275 TCI 11in breakaway TCI torque convertor and I dunno if the
$305 TCI 10in streetfighter TC would work with a stock cam

Though they also got a TCI $180 saturday night special TC which is like a street fighter just no needle bearings or hardened hub

So how do things go even more wrong?

First I noticed the filter was a tad different. My stocker was a nylon mesh and square. New one was filter media and odd shapped. Though it still fit ok.

Get pan all cleaned up [had whole bunch of sticky grey goop in the bottom]
Put the gasket on and not one of the holes line up. Right shape, made sure at counter n got the 13 bolt pan kit. Was gonna start raining again soon and had no choice but to recut 13 new holes in the gasket. Though I put a thin coat of gasket goop on each side to make sure nothing goes wrong with all them extra holes in it.

Put in a gallon of fluid and it wasn't enough to read on the stick. But it goes right into gear when selected so it not to low but not enough yet to tell if it gonna puke all over again. Done removed my dust shield while under there to be able to see for sure if it does leak. Waiting now for someone to bring me a jug of ATF. Should make advancedauto bring it to me for having the wrong gasket in that kit.

Well maybe I avoided total diaster. The only leak was the pan gasket as it pinched on the hard to see side but was easily fixed and the drip stopped.
Full of fluid and warmed up and no leaks. So I dunno what happened.

Though Im still not sure on the shifting thing. Im not gonna tempt fate n sit in gear for a long time to see if it start to shift funny. Long as it shift fine by me manualy up n downshifting at a light Im not gonna bitch. Plus its fun going through the gear.

Though the fluid in it was nasty. Dunno if the flush helped with that but it now has 2 gallons of fresh fluid in it.

If it hadn't of leaked like it did at first I would of membered to go and get a drain plug kit so the pan wouldn't need to be dropped ever again to change fluids. As id change it again in a few weeks for kicks.

If the old fluid was all that bad perhaps another change is in order? GM transmissions don't even come close to draining all of the fluid when it's trans service time. Short of a new converter and dropping the valvebody, there is no way to get all of the old fluid out.

If it looks ok in color and smells ok on the dip stick now, don't sweat it. If it looks burnt or dark or it has a bit of a burned smell, drain and refill it again.

What the heck, it's only money, right?

How much fluid does a tranny hold?
It has 2 fresh gallons in it.

Though it always looked good on the stick, in the bucket it looked nasty, nasty.

Could of been cause of the flush stuff.

    Approximately 20 pints.

So im only 4 pints short of a complete fluid change?

Them 4 pints are probably hidding in the TC.
