Found a guy selling a Nailhead locally. He has a complete motor, but it's disassembled, and he wants $850 for it. Is that a fair price?

Also, he has a short block for $350. Is that a pair price?

    Thanks guys!

I've seen a couple in CL around here in the last few months. The last one was on there for quite awhile at $425.

If anyone is interested, I have a line on a LX code 425 short block (original bore) being sold localy. He's asking $500.

I'm also selling a 401 out of my 65 Riv complete with (just rebuilt) SP-400 trans. The engine is stripped and dipped and block inspected. Comes with carb and switches, pulleys etc. Many of the pistons are no good, but rods are ok. No rockers and shafts either. $950 + shipping.

Thats high for a nailhead in a box. It could be mostly junk, even if the current owner doesn't think so. Could have cracked heads/block/bent crank...no way of knowing till you spend the bucks at a machine shop. If it is a good "running" motor, its worth it, but not if its in boxes. mho

That's way too much for a disassembled motor. I'd say 500 Max for a non running assembled core. And a running motor maybe a few hundred more. Where in the midwest are you? I have a line on a 63 Riviera parts car with a 401 and dynaflow that I'm not going to need. It was said to run when parked there a few years ago.
