Thanks. One more question... So when it gives a range from say 30-40 foot lbs, does it really mean anywhere in between that range? That seems kind of unspecific. To be safe would you just set it right in the middle at 35?
It's a tolerance allowed based on testing at the time, showing that even at the low and high sides, the fastener and gasket will perform properly. There's no way an assembly line will hit the nominal 35 ft-lbs on a regular basis, thus the tolerance is published - but you can certainly give it your best shot in the garage. Splitting the numbers as you mentioned will get you to the original nominal torque the engineers decided upon. You can then say that you've "blueprinted" your oil pan bolt torque! In the case of the Dynaflow, the manual even states that if torquing to the high side doesn't cure a pan leak to inspect the pan and try a new gasket. Devon
Also regarding the Dynaflow, while I have the pan off, should I replace or clean the screen, or do any other routine type maintanance?
