So I am putting together my list of parts for my winter project, a 1966 skylark convertible, I have selected the engine, trans, etc. I need to know what size rim and tire combination will work. I am not going to modify the frame, I will be using the umi suspension with adjustable shocks. if you have an example with pics that would be great...thanks

I've got no advice for you on this.

    I have some observations tho'.

If you're planning on upgrading your brakes to disc, you ought to go up to 15's. Looking through my OPGI wish book it seems that there's only one set that will fit 14's. AND then there's none for the rear.
But they have many choices for 15's, front and rear.

Also, there is a much wider selection of tires to choose from in 15 as opposed to 14. (My old Dodge van originally had 16.5's and only 1 company makes that size. In only 1 choice. For a little over $255. A piece. Needless to say, I got 16's on there real quick.)

Just my thoughts. Somebody else may chime in with more info than I have.

Good luck! I'm still waiting for a bit of a "windfall" so I can start really getting into fixing up my 66.

Definitely go with 17s or 18s, 14/15 inch wheels won't give you the brake choices or lateral grip it looks like you want. I don't know as much about the pre 70 cars, but it appears they don't have as much room in the wheel wells as the 70+ cars. There are some good threads in this section to read, especially the thread about postings pro touring pictures.

Are you running skirts? I chose to run skirts on my 67. I have 17x7 wheels with 215/50ZR17 tires. With a stock width rearend and skirts, this combo did not work. There was 0 clearance. I had my rear end narrowed an inch on each side to accommodate the combo.

You can see pics in my album.
