The plugs were/are in it are Autolite 26's. I dont know if they are the right ones for the motor though.

    Thanks.

Nick, The autolites are the ones to use, I am using 25 s . some where in that heat range. You can spend more money, but you cant get a better plug. I have used them for years.
Btw, are all those carbs hooked up and working??

So I guess the 26 plugs are fine?

The front 2 carbs are blocked off. I know its not good fuel distribution but we arent gonna get into changing that just yet. It runs too good for my dad and I too mess with it till winter. We're trying to get the overheating problem fixed first.

We pulled the distributor and the distributor was not right. We took it to our buddy and he said it was built perfectly, but the curve was not right. It had way too much advance on it. So he changed it and we took it around town and it still overheats. The thermostat was stuck open but I really really dont think a thermostat stuck open would cause it to do what its doing.

We are gonna put that pully on and see what it does. And I guess we might as well get a new water pump while we have the radiator off. Half the guys we talk to said that water is moving too fast, the other half of the guys say its moving too slow and the third half of everyone says its timing, carbs, and whatever else.

Yup, I know what you mean about different folks saying different things. The only time I ever had a heat problem with a nailhead was a simple case of not enough rad. I installed a 4 core and the problem was solved. Just as long as the coolant doesnt boil out of the engine. if that happens then there will be major damage. A stuck open thermostat will cause an engine to be slow to warm up. Have you checked to see if there is combustion gas in the cooling system with one of those chemical ''sniffers''???
Back when, a lot of guys would run off of the center carbs only for the street, and then kick in the others for the strip only.
Where are you taking the temp reading from??? The hole in the head that the factory uses at the front of the engine, or are you reading from the other hole at the back of the engine??
