The problem he is going to have is IF he does have a 1971 1972 rear under the car...ANY other rear will have too short of a pinion snout and he will need to lengthen the drive shaft.
Gtivalencia34 Please post pictures so we can ID the rear that Blew up.

    Thank you, Jim

    If I understand correctly,he has a 72 Skylark,which should have the 8.5” 10-bolt,unless it was swapped-out.
I would like to see pictures of the damage,so we can identify what rear it is,and determine if it can be repaired or not.
In the last year,I have seen a few people with the 68-70 Buick 8.2” failures, due to the cross shaft coming out. Securing the shaft with a rollpin was not the best idea. The pins are starting to come out of the grenades.

It could be a 12 bolt with 2.56 gears. My first Buick, a 72 Skylark custom had that rear

If everything exited through the cover, the rear can likely be saved. I’ve done 4 of the 8.2” Buick rears like that so far this year. If it actual blew out the casting of the pumpkin, she’s done.

For those that don’t use PayPal,I have them send a certified bank check or postal money order, and mail it certified mail,so it needs to be signed for. That way, everyone knows where it is.
