    few more

    I don't remember who did this work, perhaps he is a board member? But this frame certainly attracted a lot of attention.

    WOW! Alot of money and time spent on that frame. May not have looked that good when it left the plant in 56.

    I saw that in Flint....

    absolutely gorgeous.

    I bet some of the folks on the BCA board would know who owns that chassis.

    @Judd:
    Hi, I hope you are well ? No, no more high speed testing being a father and gas prices being $6/gallon here...

    @65wildkat:
    Thanks ! The interior is black/ivory (I guess the only choice that did not clash with the coral outside...) Currently, I only have a small picture that a professional photographer took approx. 15 years ago, where you can see the interior (see below - photo is copyrighted !)
    We decided to remove all the front sheet-metal, as there was a bit of welding to be done under the battery tray + we needed access to the Power brake unit + we needed access to the steering gear + this, we thought, would give the opportunity to access the converter without pulling the rear end by removing the engine, which again made replacement/seal up of the exhaust manifold easier... :bglasses:
    Whilst we are waiting for a rebuilt steering gear to arrive, we are getting to the point, where removal of the windshield and the backglass is indicated... I tell you, I am all chicken about that - I will have a good friend of mine doing that, me standing aside with my good, black pal "Jack Daniels" and watch... :puzzled:

    Best regards

    Hey, Kindacool! :TU: That '56 of yours appears to be Apricot, not Tahiti Coral, which is darker. If Apricot is the original color, the cowl tag should be marked "UUU" in the "paint" space. Hmmmmm. Very interesting. In any event, that's asweet Special! :bglasses: ---Here is a pic of my '55 in Apricot and black.---------Zach

    I guess, if the girl in the first photo were my wife, I would not find too much time, workin' on my car, if ya' know whadda mean... :Brow: (Only adults around here, are there ?)
    No, the picture was taken by the previous owner, who also had a model agency and made some commercial shots of it for picture agencies. Thus, it's not me either on the photo.
    @Zach:
    Hi, Zach ! My cowl tag reads "NNN", so it is Tahiti Coral for sure, but I suppose it has lightened through the years and actually the color comes out different on each photo you take. On the pic I attached here, the color appears to be pink for instance (same location, same day as you see)
    But she will receive a fresh coat of original Tahiti Coral in all its darker richness after the body work is done !

    Best regards

    The color on your car isn't Tahiti Coral, at least from the pix you have attached. Look at the attachment below to see Tahiti Coral, on a '56 Century ragtop. The photo (courtesy of another member) is from the post "Show us your classic Buick" that is elsewhere in this "classic Buick" section. Looking at your latest photo, I'm beginning to think it isn't Apricot either--it looks too pink. If you end up repainting your car, Sherwin Williams automotive paint co. has all the formulas for these vintage Buicks--I bought my Apricot paint from them. Very high quality stuff. --Zach. :bglasses: :beer

    It is hard to say if what were seeing is the same as the cars look in real life. You have color shift in the photo proccessing and internet transfer the light when the photo was taken and then your monitor settings come in to play.

    Hi Zach and Judd,
    I guess Judd is right - judging this by a computer picture will not lead anywhere.
    But anyway, I will have the color of the original Ditzler paint chip scanned into a computerized mixing machine and the result will hopefully be a Tahiti Coral as close as possible to the original !

    Kind regards

    I noticed you have amber front turn signsl lenses, what is that about?

  17. kindacool

    kindacool Registered Looser

    Hi Judd,
    white front turn signals are not allowed in Germany and until some 15 years ago, colored bulbs were illegal also. Thus, when the car was imported in 1980, they had to mount some aftermarket turn signal-units from the commercial vehicle line of German light manufacturer HELLA - glad they found some that look and fit almost like the originals and they did not cut the fenders to install some rectangular ones or something perverted like that !
    Meanwhile, amber colored bulbs are allowed and she will get the correct units back - without the parking lights that is, 'cause amber colored parking lights -you guessed it: Not allowed around here ! Parking lights will be integrated within the headlights, which had to be converted, too, as sealed-beam-units are not accepted either (Reason: When the glass of a sealed-beam unit cracks, the light will die - when there is a separate bulb inside: No problem !)

    Best regards

    Judd---You wanna here a good one? I work on Mercedes Benz automobiles for a living, and luckily, not at the dealer! Why? I thought I had it tough at an independant shop, but I hear through the "technicians grapevine" that '03 and '04 models are nothing but headaches, due to, get this---programming errors! Yup--your car (read:new Mercedes) can be stopped dead in its tracks by programming glitches. All I have heard is it effects mainly stereo, and GPS systems, and security systems, but I'll bet there is potential for it to kill the engine at some point in the system. What would Henry Ford, or better yet, David Buick think about all this technology? I say it's overkill! Now, I'll admit to owning a '93 Buick Century, that I just acquired, and I like it's level of technology. It has a BUICK 3.3 liter V-6, and fuel injection, but not much else. OBD-2 is on all '96 and later cars, thanks to the government! Talk about your diagnostic nightmares! Well, enough of my ranting. I love old cars, and if I didn't have to commute 40 miles a day, I'd drive my '55 Special all the time, but my little '93 Century gets better gas mileage. --All hail old school technology! :bglasses: -Zach
