I see a set of 401/425 stock steel full floating rods on ebay and was wondering what is the benfit of using full floating rods. My guess is it probably has something to do with friction and revs. Would they have any benfit to a mild/hot street motor :Brow:

For MOST street engines - Save you money!! Unless you tear your engine apart quite frequently, or are over the 1.4-1.5HP/CI mark - pressed pins should be just fine!

Full floaters certainly have their place though. They certainly make life easier when you make an internal change and need to take the pistons off the rods. At a certain point, most engine builders would consider them mandatory!

    Thanks Scott.

So the main benefits are reduction in friction and ease of disassembly. Got it. I'll save my cash. Thanks.

    Bill,
I saw them also, and was very tempted...the price was very low last time I checked ($50 for the set?). I also believe the main advantage is the ease in which they can be R & R'd. The pins are held in place by circlips (internal snap rings) in the piston, so I believe special pistons are required? Probably no noticable HP increase...
