401 Chad, Have you come up with a price for the motor? I have found one in my area but I'm not sure the guy will part with it. o No: I may be interested? Thanks Tim
401 worth/tranny adapter I'm looking at a 401 tomorrow in a 66 wildcat that runs but has oil pressure issues for $500 or $750 with the TH400 attached. I just realized from another thread that the bolt pattern isn't standard BOP and see you are using and adapter plate to fit a 200-4r. That is what I had in mind in the beginning but haven't heard of an adapter before. Where can I get one and what's the cost. Does it adapt to BOP or Chev? or both? BTW...I'm new here, name's Dan and I'm into the unusual. My nailhead is going into a fenderless 53 Studebaker sheetmetaled roadster freak of a hot rod. It's a disease. Thanx for listening. :3gears:
Studenailbakerhead Dan, Neat project! The nails usually didn't have oiling problems so be careful of one that does, could have some expensive to fix issues. You will need an adapter plate to mount the 200 4R to the nailhead and the adapters are mostly for the Chevy case 350, 400 and 700 R4, not the BOP. I thought that there maybe some unicase 200 4R's with both patterns, but I could be mistaken. Because of your unique project, you could look at a gear vendor behind the stock Buick 400 trans as an option. They aren't used much on 60's Buicks because of the wide use of X frames, but you may have the needed clearance on your car. Good luck whichever way you decide to go! Tim :beer
