I have a complete 401 from a 65 gs. Just got the car, so don't know if it runs yet. Also, does anyone know about the 2 speed trans that comes with them? I will most likly be moving the 401 if someone wants it with the trans. Just don't know how much to ask for it. So if you guys could throw me some #'s that would be great. Thanks for your time Chad o No:
Absolutely worthless!!! Chances are you will have to pay someone to take it! I am the type of guy that likes to help people out, so I would be happy to save you that trouble and would be willing to take it off your hands free of charge. :Brow:
depends on the condition a paid just over 300 for mine but i would have paid more for an actual gs motor with and rear sump pan and the mounts.......things ive had to buy...........put you location up it can help
Well it would depend on if she's a runner or stuck. How many miles it has seen. Is it a single 4 barrel or 2 X 4's. Buick chrome air cleaner, Buick aluminum valve covers would add to value. Exhaust manifolds and motor mounts included? Is the tranny the stock 2 speed 300 that came with the car? Just some question I would have if you were closer.
good deal thanks for the replys guys. This helps alot. I will have to look into the numbers and tranns. Also the miles too. but this would be a complete set up air cleaner too mounts plus exaust manifolds. will let you guys know. Thanks Chad :beer
if it's a complete carb to pan LR code motor with rear sump pan. fuel hose loops under the front 2 pan bolts and the correct 65- 66 GS exhaust manifolds and it is at least rebuildable then you can get 400-500 for it. the transmission isnt a big seller as most people go to a th400 from a 65-66 big car.
From what I understand those motor mounts are pretty rare o No: They are supposedly essential to clone any Skylark to a GS. Rick
Same goes for the GS Skylark exhaust manifolds unless you want to use headers (headers are being manufactures and are availble).
You Guys Are Great Thank you so much for the help. I think that she will be stuck.. All original with 67,000 on it as far as I can tell. Has original carb on it and the exaust manifolds. the motor mounts are worth something? cool, i will be moving in 2 weeks to the mid part of the state and am looking to see if anyone wants it. i need to take it out of the car yet, but soon it will be out. From what i hear it might have the two speed with a varible pitch torque converter?i don't want to be raped, but i am willing to deal with someone. I am new to buicks and numbers and codes on motors. So i will post them when i get them so you guys can help me out. will keep you posted. thanks chad
Hi Chad did you get that motor from mark the other month he sold his and was wondering if your the guy that bought it if so it is a true gs motor exhaust was as such as well droped down the sides i looked at her but she was tight at that time i got the other motor from him with the tranny and all three old buicks Greg
Trans will be a switch pitch 2-speed. Speaking of switch pitch the funky switch up by the carb with the rubber covering is what activates this function. Another sought after piece. You may also have a posi rear in her that someone could always use. The center consoles bring some nice $$ if in good condition especially if it has the BUICK tach in there. Now if you want to move the tach I would be very interested.
still can't find code Hey guys. I found the numbers on the intake and heads. It is a carter single 4 barrel, manifold has numbers B top then 1368782 with a 2 below it. The heads have number B-1374603-E. Need to find motor number. Where should i look? All the original lines are still there. exaust manifolds too. i will be taking the motor out this week, so if anyone wants it, let me know. I also have a slew of decent parts. glass, some chrome trim etc. let me know guys. Thanks alot for the help. Chad
Got The Numbers No, i got the motor from a guy named scott. The motor reads left to right LR 583 5H335445. The heads read B-1374603-E. The manifold reads 1368782. And a carter 4 barrel on top with the original air cleaner. The motor mounts come with too. So now if anyone is interseted let me know. original with 67,000 on it, does not look to have been touched at all. thanks and let me know if this is something that is of interest to someone. later chad o No:
Sorry if I offended you, I was just in a goofy mood that day and felt like joking around. If I had a car to put the engine, I would actually be interested in it and it would be a pretty easy deal to make since I find myself up in your neck of the woods fairly frequently working on my mom's house in Appleton.
no problem man no hard feelings. if you know anyone that might be interested let me know. i will still be in the waukesha area for 2 weeks yet. i'm trying to unload the 401 and the 300 i have. trying to take as little as i have to up to neenah. i am willing to work with anyone. keep in touch. thanks man chad
One other site you might want to post is Yahoo groups Buick Nailhead. You will have to join in order to post but some of the Nailheaders over there don't like to come here.
