It is probably 90% original GS. I have mostly hot rods and agree with upgrades for sure. Just curious when I get tired of messing with this car what selling it will be like.
Replacing and painting fascia. And first ever application of foam in a can topped with flex seal to seal a roof leak. What could go wrong??
Blasted & painted bumper brackets for the 69, hung that and the grill. Then set up the 400 so I can dial in the cam. Today sanitized the porch for Cathi. Old jalousie windows super clean now. Missed the Concours show...it just keeps raining.
Went to the Scrap Drive swap meet in Belvidere, IL yesterday morning. Leaving the house a 6:30am on a perfect morning, windows down, driving my matching numbers `71 big block 4 speed El Camino is about as good as it gets for me. While there I scored something I have never seen before. I certainly don't need them but got what I thought was a fantastic deal on them so I couldn't resist. A pair of aluminum heads for SBC but with PONTIAC cast onto the sides and the Pontiac Arrowhead cast just below each. Apparently back in the late 80s/early 90s most of the Nascar GM cars were running small block Chevys and Brodix cast these heads specifically for that purpose. I think I'm going to take them apart and have them flow tested. Just curious what they might be capable of flowing. Last night we went to a cruise night at Gus's Drive-In in East Troy, WI, about an hour from here. Weather was perfect and there was a great turnout. We drove the El Camino. Today I pulled the engine out of my Buick. I finally got the transmission back from the builder and then discovered that my 20 year old Griffin radiator was leaking. I ordered a new one but as long as I had it out and the transmission had to be removed anyway, it seemed like as good a time as any to get the engine off to the dyno. Going to schedule that hopefully in the next couple weeks.
I packed the 65 GS for the Power Tour. Not doing the whole thing this year so leaving tomorrow. Happy to have a cavernous trunk on the Buick!
Major amount of work on the house outside. First decent weekend this year... Cut in new 90' driveway and removed 70' of old sidewalk to the DR's office at the back portion of our house.(old town dr's house). Cut and graded south side of yard between house and new driveway. Planted 4 pear trees a few flowers. Moved several flowering trees from the south side to north side of the house. Removed a few trees trimmed a few limbs in the maples about 20' up. Now the new plants have better light. Added 75' of drain pipe to the yard and back filled with 14 yds of crushed stone. Landscape mat covered that with about 5 " of top soil. I'll put down new sod yard when I get back from Bowling Green next week. Should be a great time with the Buick Funnycar. At least my lung infection is starting to get better . Almost forgot we planted the garden. I even had a minutes to sit in the dragster, trying to get motivated on that next....
Was working on installing new lug studs in the Riv and finished up the electric fan. Then I heard something heavy drop and apparently one of my press plates landed on a can of aluminum spray paint, bursting it, so been working on getting that mess off the Mach 1 and buffing it now.....not a good day, but the car is shiny.
Restored a set of 1966 AR2ax speakers I got on craigslist for free. Man, they sound good. Huge score, they are worth big bucks, but I'm keeping them for myself.
More work on the never ending deck project. Just when you think its done for awhile another section fails. Always starts off the same way. I'll just replace a few bad boards and turns into a complete do over. Looking back I wish I had the knowledge 15 years ago to do it like Im doing it now and might not be having these problems,or even better should have just done the entire thing with pavers. Rained nearly all day on Sunday so I didnt get much done.
Reinstalled the top hold-down straps on the '27 Model T. I had them off to soak them in Neatsfoot oil. They are now soft and supple and may last longer then I will.
Put a new fuel sending unit in my Firebird. Figured it would be easier to drop the tank before I re-install the rear end. And some yard work.
Badly Needed r&r so we Left Westfield Saturday and headed out to buzzrds bay and went out on cousins boat to the vinyard and chillaxed at tarpaulin cove with friends and family.
