I remember a little while back there was a Skylark or Special on eBay that had some "GS Ornamentation Package", which sounds silly but could have been a trim package. Does anyone remember this? I normally would think it was not real, but I don't recall anyone dispeling this myth.

In any case, could this be one of those? Or maybe it's a California GS? Where are you from, Matt?

From Northern Michigan. Bought the car from a fellow in Illinois. Springfield area. I asked him after I purchased the car what sort of shape he thought it was in, more like if you were going to put a lot of money into restoring this vehicle to make it like new how would you rate it on a scale on 1-10 he said an eight. That makes me feel a little better but you know how everyones opinions can vary drastically. Especially when you look at the pictures and see paint over rust. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I will have to do to make it a good GS clone? Or is it one of those things where I will just have to look at it and determine that?

Also thank you for all the imput so far, I can tell the V8 Buick Family will be a big help for all of my problems!

To make an accurate clone you are looking at $3,500+. All the mint 67GS 400parts go for big $. It already has the "GS look" with the plastic grille. For now just getting a big block in there will keep you busy.

Haveing a GS clone maybe i can shed some light on the issue 1st there was a GS badge option W1. Badges and fender louvers only no hood scoops there is no way to tell that unless you have the cars original paper work. that engine has later model valve covers on it if there are 5 bolts its a big block 6 its a 350 sbb either way its not the original engine you could not get a 350 in 67 and you could not get a 400 in a special also there should be a piece of trim across the back of the trunk if its a W1 option car. As far as cloneing it as a GS 400 you would need to change the interior and door panels and you could leave it a bench car. Buckets and a console could cost 1500.00+easy that trunk trim panel about 150.00 restorable. the scoops go for 300.00 + on ebay the star wars air cleaner 500.00+ on ebay. I bought most of these parts a few years ago before the cost of these parts went sky hi or you could leave it a special and enjoy it there are many here on the board that look great. I have about 15000.00 into my car money that i could have bought a decent real GS with Money that ill never recoup unless i become a shady character and sell it on EBAY as a GS

This looks to be a special with 66 fenders and hood. I don't understand the VIN as mentioned earlier. I can't honestly see anything that tips me off that it was/is a GS.

The rear looks full of bondo, or maybe i'm looking at the pictures wrong but around the rear wheel well, it should be indented, and this looks flush. I can't tell very well from the pics, but check the rust very carefully. These cars are VERY hard to source parts for.

This is the base special interior, altho that was the same as the GS340 or a W1 car. Your easiest bet would be to clone it to a GS340 as it already has the correct interior.

Good luck with your project! 67's are the best!

That VIN REALLY confuses me. 3 denotes an Oldsmobile. How on earth would that even be possible on a Buick? The rivets are also wrong (they should be the SS star shaped ones). The VIN tag has been changed at one time or another, but how on earth would it say Buick with an Olds #.....:Do No: :Do No:

Does it have a clear title? What does the title say for a VIN#? If your state requires a VIN check by the DOT when it is brought into the state (most do), it will not pass inspection and they will not title it.

Just giving you some food for thought. I would proceed carefully. In fact, if it was me, I would back out of the deal on grounds of the VIN discrepantcy. Ebay will support you when a VIN has been messed with. As you can see I have many 67's, and this does not appear to be a good deal for the money. Please just take this as a friendly comment, you can ignore it as you wish!:TU:

This is enough to rescind the deal on this car. Just from looking at the pics, if this car is an 8 out of 10 the moon is made of chedder.

Hmmm, in the original ad he states the correct vin number but the pic is wrong??? Could the dash tag be a different number than the jamb?? It is starting to sound shady? I'd look into it before you get it. Have the guy send you a few more pics if possible. :Brow:

Looks like a '3' to me, and it looks like round rivets. I don't have a pic of mine at work or I would attach what one should look like. Could be a mis-stamp, cause with the 'BUICK' at the top, along with the rest of the #ing, it looks to be correct for a Buick Special. Doesn't explain the incorrect rivets though. A mystery for sure.:Do No:

Here's a correct one. You can see the rivets clearly in this pic. Also, I checked all of my cars tonight, and they all face the opposite direction of yours. I thought it looked wrong, but I wasn't sure till I checked. Something looks fishy. Please verify that it's not stolen. Give your local DMV the VIN # and have them run it first. I bought my post 4-spd car on ebay and it turned out to be stolen. They seized the car immediately. I was heartbroken as I have spent 20+ years looking for one. It took me over a year of messing around and mucho $$ to finally get everything cleared up and back in my shed. I know i'm sounding motherly here, but take it from someone that learned the hard way.

I checked 3 other cars as well and they all have the same rivets as pictured. The only difference is one (the Special) has GM Canada where the others say Buick.

Wow this sounds like it could turn out to be a bad deal. I wonder why it has the 3 at the beggining rather than the 4? It's obvious then that its not the original vin plate huh.. Well I'm paying 600 bucks to have it trailered back to Traverse City MI tomarrow. I feel like I'm taking a pretty good risk on this one now. It will probably turn out to be yet another "To good to be true" stories. I guess time will tell.

Thanks for all the imput though!! I guess if this doesnt work out I will just start on the 72.

    Just an FYI.

The "GS" stamped on the boot represents the manufacturer of the boot, not that it was made for a GS. My original '68 GS Boot has the same stamping and I thought the same thing "it was for a GS" but I was shown that I was wrong, so now I know :pp Think about it, would GM make a boot that was specific for a GS eventhough the same boot would fit a skylark?

Thanks for the info Mike. I asked about this before and got no response. It's what I was told by the seller and was why he saved it.
