i thought id get an idea from the forum i have a 4bb holley double pumper on it but need to get a better one what carbs will work with my car its a 71 buick skylark with a 350
Hi there, GM spent a lot of time and money making the Q jet specific for each year and engine. If your engine is stock then the factory spec carb is 100% the best bet. In this case a 7041544 carb is the "correct Q jet" for your engine. Having said that there are some factory "flaws" that should be corrected on any Q jet as well as a lot of the rebuild parts and kits are not very good at all. So all in all your best bet is to either find a Buick 350 carb and rebuild it yourself using a kit from here: http://www.cliffshighperformance.com/ Or better yet if you have the money then get Ken to build you a Q jet. Ken can take any 70-80 Buick 350 carb and match it to your engine easily. If your 350 is not stock he can match it to your modifications. I have had a bunch of carbs built by Ken for various daily drivers from pickup trucks to Buicks, tow trucks, Corvettes etc and these carbs are the best money can buy... He tests the carbs on a test engine before he ships them out. He has even done me favours and FOUND me the right number Q jets I wanted, rebuilt them with modifications as per my requests and shipped them to me all in about 2.5 weeks from my first phone call. His carbs have raised the MPG vs a worn out stocker by about 15% or more in some cases... When compared to a Holley the MPG is normally raised even more without loosing any power. I am in no way related to Ken, just a happy customer: http://www.everyday-performance.com...!/~/category/id=578011&offset=10&sort=nameAsc
There's nothing wrong with a Holley carburetor but I wouldn't use a double pumper on a street car, if it's a double pumper you have. I'm not trying to say you don't know what you have, just that I have run across so many people through the years who insist they have a double pumper when in fact it's a dual feed, vacuum secondary carb. Does it have an accelerator pump on both fuel bowls? Anyway, in your case I'd go with the previous suggestions and use a Q-jet. The Holley will require an adaptor to mount it on your original manifold, which in most cases leak, could alter throttle linkage geometry, reduce hood clearance and are generally a PITA.
ok thanks for the links ! yea cause ive heard the same one the kid that had it before me said he and his dad put that on their which i was sure why but whatever floated their boat i guess
