Thanks a lot for your fabulous info!!!!!

    especially to tom

There is no rebuild service for an carter here in europe and it would actually cost me more to sent my old carb to the us, then just getting a new one.
Therefore I just ordered an 750 Edelbrock carb with the electric choke.

I know that i have to change the air cleaner, when installing the new carb, but i have to do it anyway, as the big but beautyfull original one, is already to big and hits the new distributor and some other parts in the engineroom.
In Addition i hope that i will get a little more power out of the 750.

However i also agree, that the main problem is the Dynaflow, but to change that and install a e.g. 400, 700 or a different trans, this seems to be incredeably expensive, exspecially here in Europe. I once saw, this conversion plates but i think this was something around 600 $ or even more + a new trans.

You think maybe the turbo 400 of the 64 Riv would fit in the 63 without this whole transformation process?

Thanks a lot for your great info guys.!!!! Here in europe, Austria, its really hard to get all this info and some guys that can help me.

Alex, just to give you an idea, I took my air cleaner and cut the carb flange out of it and welded in a bigger flange from a 66 qjet air cleaner, keeping my GS air cleaner.

FYI, the TH400 didn't come out until '65. In '64, the big Buicks used the one year only Super Turbine 400.

And FYI, the Th400 came out in '64 in all the full size Buicks & Cadillacs but did not have a switch pitch feature. It was a 1 year only case & valve body but most of the internals are the same as any other TH400.

That is what is in my 64 Riv. Just shows low and drive on the shift indicator but when you take off , you feel it shift twice.

I guess I'm misinformed then. My chassis service manual calls it a ST400 and the old timer at the tranny shop said they were different in the same ways you mentioned. I understood the ST400 to be the predecessor of the TH400 and not the same thing. Sorry if I spread any disinformation here. :Do No:

Looks like the correct carb. There are two numbers listed for 63 3503S and 3578S This number is located on the front left mounting bolt area. This is a good carb, better than the Rochester for that year. I would advise against using an Edelbrock because I had one on my 64 Wildcat and it never ran right so I brought it in to The Carb Shop to get it tuned and the told me to come out back. He had 4 pallets of the Edelbrock carbs sent to him for repair under warranty. He recommended I find the original style Carter AFB for the car.
