I wonder if the OP is getting any oil to the lifters/rockets. I don't know anything about Nailheads but if he's getting oil to the valves, I would think it would be less likely to be a blockage in the system.
had an old ponco do that to me it was a bad ring and the cylinder pressure was blowing by the rings. blew filters and gaskets out till i rebuilt it
