Im looking for a molded carpet for my 73 Buick Lesabre 2 door hardtop? Who makes the best quality? Who made the original carpet?
ACC is good but now OPG has a new carpet they get from Dorsett Industries that they claim are the original manufacturer?? for GM
I concur, top notch! OPG stands for Original Parts Group. If you decide to shop with them, ask if they have it in stock. I ordered a bunch of parts from them and all were "back ordered". I get the impression that they keep minimum inventory to maximize cash flow. Here's the link to A1auto. Excellent service and good prices!
A long time back we surveyed the carpets and settled on ACC in large part based on Duane's experience in the field. They are molded and I can tell you that they are not just a drop in item either especially around the drive tunnel. I think OPG has some of the worst service and biggest shipping delays in the business. However if it is proven that they now have a better carpet than ACC I would get it. The first question I would ask them is "Is you carpet molded to fit the particular car's floor pan?" I would probably have to get that confirmed with the carpet manufacturer based on my experience with OPG.
The Dorsett carpet is a new product they carry. Maybe not well known on market. OPG does not make it but maybe worth a try. They carry my color but it looks like ACC does not so that may be the deciding factor for me.
I would suspect that OPG will have the carpet drop shipped by the manufacturer. It doesn't pay for them to actually stock such large bulky items that come in a variety of colors. That said, if their processing is good, the vendor should get it right out to you. I have no experience with OPG but I have worked in the parts restoration/supply business.
Here's a link to what you want. Just select your year. It looks like they have a lots of colors, including green if that's the color you're looking for. BTW, both Jim and I have been referring to the company as A1 auto, it's actually 1Aauto.
"ACC is good but now OPG has a new carpet they get from Dorsett Industries that they claim are the original manufacturer?? for GM" Dorsett Industries may have been one of the original manufacturers, but I have taken tags off original carpet sets and the Flint, Fremont, & Framingham plants each got carpets from a different manufacturer. GM did this to keep shipping costs down. I use ACC carpets for all my cars. The heal pads are correct, etc. Duane
I am having my carpet replaced next week with ACC carpet, and I was wondering if the door panel bottoms and the kick panels are included in the ACC kit, or what is generally done about those items? I need them replaced as well.
They typically are not included but usually you can request extra yardage of carpet (for additional $) from the supplier. It is a good idea to get it all from the same place at the same time, so color matching won't be an issue.
Gary....try this site.It is Dorsett carpet and they have ones for your car whether its a 2 door or 4 door. I am ordering one for my 73 GS tomorrow. http://www.stockinteriors.com/items.asp?MakeId=3&ModelId=28&MainCatId=1&Desc=Buick_LeSabre_Carpet They are running a summer sale until August 31st if you want to save some money. Carpet for my 73 GS is $124.15 shipped to my house.I think the carpet is $109.00. I had to wait 6 weeks for Legendary, but its really nice stuff...
I believe Rockauto.com also sells Dorsett carpet, if that is what you have your heart set on. Good delivery and customer service. Generally good prices too, so it's another alternative to shop price.
i just changed the carpet on the weekend in my 69 wildcat. I ordered from legendary interiors but it got drop shipped from someone else? It seemed to fit very well and was happy with the product, I still have the box in the garbage and will dig it out and see who the real supplier was. I have never installed carpet before but i screwed up and should not have cut any holes untill the carpet was squared up on the firewall and was centered side to side. Now i have to patch a few holes where the seat bolts down:af: Good luck and take your time, Gord
Auto custom carpets inc, is where mine got drop shipped from. I don't know how good it is, but it did fit ok and seems to be close to original?
