    Hello all,

This is my first post and I've scoured the boards and the internet and I have come up empty. Since I've had hood clearance issues with the first gen Riviera and non-drop base air cleaners, what air cleaner (I assume a drop base style) is used with the 1411 that sits low enough to clear the hood?

There is a local guy selling a 14" Edel drop base I was looking at.

    Thank you
    Chris

Buick made a Q-jet base in 1966 that is the ticket!
I had this problem long ago and used a Edelbrock drop base without problems in my 65 Riv. The car is stock so I ended up putting on the stock carb and air cleaner.

^^^ Thanks for that info Ted. Was it an Edelbrock offset drop base? I don't have an HEI dist just all stock.

I'll reach out to the local guy. I believe it's a center drop base.

If you swap the original AFB top for the Edel you can use your stock air cleaner.

    Hi all,

I wanted to update this thread for other users to use as future reference.

This applies to the 425 Nailhead and I presume it would also work on the 401. I used the 1411 EPS carburetor (also similar to a 1406) with a drop base Edelbrock air cleaner model #1221 (black color is model #1223). I also purchased Edelbrock banjo kit #8089. This fitting is supposed to be used to clear the drop base. I also purchased 24" length of 3/8" fuel hose to connect the fitting to the fuel filter.

I hope this helps to consolidate the parts needed to install an Edelbrock Performer carburetor and a hood clearing air cleaner.

    Chris
