I have bought a Edelbrock 750 carb for my `65 GS but the original air cleaner assembly will not fit this carb,is there any type of adaptor i can use to run my stock air cleaner assembly with this carb?

    Thank you

I don't know if this will be helpful, but I bought a pair of small diameter air cleaners to run my dual quad setup, and they came with adaptors that fit the Carter and widened to fit the air cleaner base. I need to look at them, but I'll bet I could turn them upside down to make a stock Carter-sized air cleaner fit a Qjet diameter carb base.

I bought them at a local parts store. They're in storage in Oklahoma, and I won't be up there till the 15th. I wonder if Edelbrock doesn't offer adaptors. I am sure you aren't the first to run into this problem. I'll go look around the net to see what I can find.

Well, I did a Google search, and sent the question to the Edelbrock site. I saw where someone else had asked the question, but they didn't have the answer posted. The Edelbrock site doesn't offer any such air cleaner adaptors, but they may have them, anyway. I found www.carbs.net that has different width air cleaner spacers, but no adaptors. I guess they are trying to sell air cleaners, and don't want us using our stock pieces. I'm personally interested in this problem, because I want to put my Qjet manifold and 66 Qjet on my 4speed, and can't find a correct Qjet air cleaner. I think the next best thing is the adaptor, although you are running a restriction at the adaptor. On the other hand, maybe you get a little venturi effect from it.:Do No: I'll let you know if I get a response from Edelbrock.

Here's what Edelbrock had to say...

unfortunately we do not offer any adapters, the air cleaner diameter of our
carbs is 5-1/4 inches, the only adapter we offer is for the same size, but
    it raises it up.

    Thank you.

I find it laughable that Edelbrock would buy the rights to the venerable AFB, used on MILLIONS of cars, and make no provisions to have their carbs fit those MILLIONS of stock air cleaners. I'll stick to rebuilt stock units. I don't think Edelbrock cares about my business.

I got a carb adapter kit at autozone that had a couple black plastic cones that allowed my to fit the edelbrock to my stock filter on my 65 riv. Less $10 summer before last.

    Mr Gasket Spacers...

    Hey George,

When I replaced the original AFB's with new Comp Series AFB's on my '66, I had the same dilemma....The carb tops were larger than the air cleaner opening. I didn't want to cut up an original air cleaner, so I used two spacers, about one inch high, cut from a two pound coffee can. These spacers fit nicely over the larger carbs, then the original air cleaner now fits on top of the spacers. Maybe not the optimum setup for air flow, but the original air cleaners don't flow enough anyway.
Mr Gasket has 'Air cleaner risers' which would appear to work in the same way. They're avail in 1/2" and 1" tall sizes. Jeg's part number is 720-9341 and 720-9341, respectively. On page 203 of the latest catalog.
