Well after i thought about everything i finally went with the Mallory non-vacuum advance distributor for my `65GS part #372920001 special order from Summit, and also ordered the re-curve kit,is it possible to use my MSD 6AL box and MSD coil with this set up?should i gap my plugs to .045 after i install? Thanks
George, The distributor is basically just an electronic trigger. You are paying for a better, more consistent trigger. It will fire pretty much any box and coil combination you want. Just follow the instructions that come with it. Your plug settings seem fine, but you will have to experiment. I am curious how much Summit is asking for them. I got a Mallory pre-production Nailhead design from an Ebay auction, but it was still not cheap! I went with a Hyfire IVc box from Mallory to stay with the brand and do something a little different. It has a limiter, and is about the same thing as the 6al. Cheryl
Cheryl,it cost $270,its not as bad i thought comparing it to the MSD Distributors for the 400-430-455`s,but i can never bear with points,i hate them,i assume that there will be instructions on how to install them with the MSD 6AL Box and coil, the is suppositly a electronic ignition set up and way better than the points. Thank you
Could you use $120 extra? The money you could have saved by having your stock distrib redone by Dave... But it's only money, right? I don't mean to sound rude, or mean in anyway, but I've squanderd enough money over the years and put my foot down this year when it comes to spending wisely.. Just some food for thought..
no doubt, but my problem is this,i drive the car everyday and for now its my means of transportation and i cant wait to pull mine out and send it out to get it done because like i said its my only means of transportation at this time,so i`d rather spend the the xtra cash and just do a quick swap and i`m done you know what i mean. Thanks
I see whatcha mean... I doubt I could of done it like that as well.. Tho I do have a crappy Chebby that's a spare. Lucked out I guess and had a good core from a 'yard run.. heh-heh Wiring the whole mess up isn't tough.. Just time consuming if done right.. Plan a day of it with alot of head-stratching.. :gt:
