    hello;

I have a 64 wildcat 401 with ac that has now a 5 blade waterpump in it,is there a 3 blades waterpump for ac engines???

I'm asking that because i was looking to my old waterpump and that is a 3 blades (that has destroit mine timingcover:af: ,i welded it )

but with the 5 blades my engine is running hotter,is that possible???

    thanks wilfred

The five blade pump is correct for AC but some people think that the 3 blade is better. Both will work. The AC cars have a smaller pulley and the pump will turn faster. I would go with what the engineers at Buick designed it to have.

I don't have heating problems in city traffic only on highway use when i drive constantly about 70 to 80 mph then it creeps up from 185 to 240 dgrs.

I have a larger radiator installed and i have the fan and clutch new(with fanschroud)and the temp still creeps up.

So i thought maybe the waterpump with the 5 blade impeller pumps to fast:Do No:

After the 3 blade impeller came loose from the shaft i ordered a new one with 3 blades but in that one the complete bearing with shaft broke out of the casting within a mile!!!!

I get all my water pumps from a guy in Oregon. I've been dealing with him for more than 10yrs. So far, knock on wood, I haven't had a problem. Info as follows

    The Flying Dutchman
    200 Davis Creek Rd.
    Selma, Or. 97538
    Phone: 541-597-4057

He can & will rebuild your pump. He has the ability to make parts that aren't available any more. He has "NailHead" cores in stock I have sent him.

Mine has always done that, and I've also tried everything imaginable and nothing seems to help........except driving slower. :Dou:

As for the broken pumps.....I've been there too. I had a new one from NAPA make it's signature on my perfect timing cover within 2,000 miles. I've always had good luck with quality re-built pumps. I just don't know who sells QUALITY re-manufactured parts anymore........I'd just go with the dutch guy.

Is it maybe an option to fit a engine oilcooler with thermostat to keep the oil cooler, maybe then the watertemp stays cooler also????

The 5 blade pump is not a rebuild one,i have it now about 3 years in my cat, that i drive as my daily.

Only problem is creeping up in temp on highway use in the summer when it's getting warmer, the rest from the year the temp stay's around the 185 to 195 dgrs on highway use.

I tried a heavy duty fanclutch but then i feel that i loose engine power.

Mine did that and I found it to be the radiator. Is this a new radiator? Three or four row?

it's a wider and higher 3 row core

If this is a new core and you have a good thermostat (185 degree) You should not have a problem. Did you put a lot of paint on the radiator? this insulates the fins. Otherwise I'm at a loss.

yes i have the right thermostat 185 in it,and not much paint on the core.

    maybe an oilcooler???
