I've had a TA water pump on my 70 for at least 5-6 years and it did help with temps. Quality appearing piece and I have been pleased with the purchase. The corner/edge of my power steering belt rubbed a bit for a few days but that took care of itself. I do recommend buying anything from TA through a dealer/reseller like Tri Shield though in case you do have problems.

I should post a picture of the impeller, it's design is like what is used in a pool pump. The reason Jim's pump didn't turn was the shipper had dropped the box and it hit just right which jared the impeller up against the housing. Sorry Jim, we had never seen that before. I'm the only one here that puts those together and I know they turn before I take them up to shipping. Never say Never I learned.

    Post that picture!
That is the reason I did not buy a flowkooler, I did not like the impeller design.
I give TA 5 stars for a well designed and efficient water pump.☺

Gotta say that's real encouraging to hear! I just finished putting on a new T/A timing cover and splurged for the T/A pump as well because I'm here in Lexington SC and know what you mean about those temps. I was hoping for that kinda performance when I got the pump I cant wait to see.

I should just have my paycheck sent to Mike at TA this year...lol I can say that I NEVER received any inferior product from them and like the fit and performance of their parts. That is why I keep going back there..With the issues several are starting to have with the new Edelbrock heads,ProForm roller rockers,I am glad I waited to get TS heads anf rockers instead!

Hey wanted to add that i bought a Ta perf water pump and am very impressed it is a nice casting and has a bearing on shaft not bushing very sturdy also nice thickness in flange area but best part is they redesigned on the inside to block off or seperate the suction and discharge to eliminate cavitation and added a 1 piece closed impeller this thing moves the coolant after talking to the guys about low speed cooling issues i bought one it solved my low speed cruising troubles i put a 455 in a 55 buick roadmaster and i can enjoy it now!!! Take a look at a stock pump they are junk and check out the open impeller and small vanes i know you will be happy getting one email me if you want id be glad to talk

  8. I know TA recommends a 180 degree stat but am wondering if anyone has experienced problems or success with this application. Some of the posts show good results but don’t mention what stat was used. Thanks

Modern cars run at higher temperatures, 200* or so, because it is better for emissions and power (as long as there is no detonation/ping). IMHO, 180* is the ideal temperature to run our older cars at. Having said that, the thermostat determines the operating temperature of the cooling system, as long as everything else in the system is up to par. The cooling system will never run cooler than the thermostat rating, so the question is, what temperature do YOU want your engine to run at?

I have a TA replacement starter on my GS. Works excellent.
Not the Hipo version but flawless none the less on a streeters.

  11. Thanks Larry. I’d be happy at something in the 180’s. I’ve just received a TA high flow water pump and will get it on this week I hope. I’ll get a 180 stat and hope for the best. I’m near houston so we get very hot and humid so cooling is a problem for most of the year.

  12. TA water pump on with 180 stat. Normal driving today at outside temp of 78 never ran over 180. Got on freeway running 70+ and temp was 190. Back on the street was again 180. Beats the hell out of 200-210 which was what it was doing prior to this.

I had overheating issues for years. Problem was always in heavy traffic and long traffic lights. During summer time of course. The two things that really helped was first TA's hi volume water pump. It kept the temps more steady between 190-205 or so. Still warmer than I liked. Next was an aluminum radiator with the larger inner tubing. A Griffin to be specific. ( no leaks still ) These two items helped the most. I also bought a TA radiator shroud and a larger fan ( used off of Ebay ) to bolt on to the clutch assembly. 19.5 in 7 blade fan that was from a Chevelle. My original was a 7 blade at 17.5 in. The shroud and larger fan gave me a clearance of a 1/4 in all the way around the fan. Not much. But the fan is centered and there's no contact. Even after driving the car for a couple of years with this installation now. Every gap and opening is gone. I sealed it up so to speak the best I could. Especially where the shroud bolts to the rear of the top radiator cover. My engine temps now stay between 180 - 190 degs. Never goes above 190 on the hotter days. After years of frustration and always driving having to worry about coolant temps, I now have piece of mind. I can drive and not always have to worry about it. That's my story and I hope this can help someone else. John B.
