I will need a new water pump for the 400 going in the Sportwagon and wondered if anyone here has had experience with the TA Performance high volume pump they make for the 400. It is expensive but if it helps keeps the temperature at 180 - 190 then I would consider it. If not TA anyone have a particular source for a 'stock' pump?

Thanks in advance for the input.

TA also carries the stock-style pump. I had one on my 455, the fit and finish was excellent. Cooling was bad, but I don't blame the water pump. I'm probably going to buy the high-performance one from TA, unless people respond to your thread here and say it sucks.

I've read some excellent results on this board with the TA HP water pump.

    1967-1972 Buick 400, 403, 425, 455 Water pumps ???? That's some strange info from Flowkooler?

Yeah they seem like some real experts. o_O

    The title at least says 1967-1972 400, 430, 455.

Like I said, I think they came up with a business model of putting better impellers in castings they source from China... doubt they know anything about Buick, or have ever actually flowtested one of their "Buick" pumps. They just saw that maybe people wanted a BBB pump, and threw one together. It certainly feels better to support TA, which is a big part of why I often end up shopping there even when the price is wrong.

I know of 2 people that use FlowKooler pumps on their high dollar motors and never had an issue with them. They spoke very highly of them as well.. I personally have the 1618 3 1/4 anodized impeller pump that will most likely go on my new motor..I don't recall seeing China written on it or stamped on it.But,I will have to check it out.

I agree , I preach supporting TA all the time but can't deny that there is another option available if say TA is out of stock , which is somewhat common. Flowkooler breaks the pumps down by application in part description, they show both tall and short bodies. Yes it's just an updated impeller design and not an improved casting AND impeller design like the TA , but the impeller is what's moving the water and is the more beneficial design change IMO

I'm running the TA_1537BHP with w/180* thermostat and a good radiator (non ac car).
Car has never been over 190* at idle in summer and it drops right down as soon as you move.
Better than a stock unit? no idea, but for four times the price I would sure hope it would be.
That being said, I would buy another one because I have no real complaints with it.

I use a FlowKooler. Good pump. Helped stop my temperature creep on highway driving.

I bought a new T/A pump from a board member and couldn't be happier, car runs an average of 10 to 15 degrees cooler in traffic. I would recommend buying a T/A pump because of the quality and also to support someone who supports us Buick people.

I've been very happy with the TA pump on my 462 and 470. 95-105 degree summer days here in SC with the AC running have never seen the temp go past 195, and that was sitting in traffic for a long time. Most of the time it runs right at 180-185.

Great input guys. Seems like 50/50 between FlowKooler and TA. I think supporting TA makes sense if the budget will support it.
    Thanks,

With my Ameritech aluminum radiator, I had big improvement in my 67 GS while driving. But those 64-67 radiators are smaller than the 68-72.
The TA super pump finally solved my city and idle temperature creeping up to 230 degrees.
    I'm happy now!!!

If you buy one from TA, ask them to make sure it spins before they send it to you! Look for Jim Rodgers thread. Just sayin.

True. I bought one that was siezed up and wouldnt turn. After some hassle they replaced it.

The pump works very well though. Very nice product and worth the extra money.
