Everytime I search for carb stuff for my 59 Invicta it comes up as a "4bbl" but mine is a "2bbl". Which was stock on the '59 401 on the Invicta???

My buddy has a 59 LeSabre, that came with a stock 364, but it had a Stromberg 2 barrel carb.

Are you sure that you have a Carter carb? I have also heard, the AFB designation used by Carter is for Aluminum Four Barrel. I myself have never heard of a 2 barrel called a AFB. Carter does make 2 barrel carbs, but not called AFB.

If you just want a rebuild kit for your carb, take it off the car and look carefully, there should be some stamped numbers on the carb. Take those numbers, along with the carb manufacturer, to a good old-style auto parts store. They should have a carb kit book where they just look up that stamped number and make sure that you get the right kit. This is for any carb, on any car, you need to get the stamped numbers so that you get the right kit, as many times there were small changes mid-year.

For '59 the Invicta 4600 series came standard with the high compression 401 "Wildcat 445" motor. This motor used both the Carter AFB and Rochester 4GC. I would suggest checking the engine code on your block a '59 401 would have the 4F code.

That looks like a 4bbl to me. Can you take a shot from the top and post it?

Yeah, looks like an early AFB 4-bbl to me, like what was originally on my 64. Number is stamped on the front corner, passenger side, at bottom. That number will lead to the right rebuild kit. The later years AFBs added a PCV fitting between the mixture screws, fuel line moved to the back, air cleaner neck opened up from around 4" to 5 1/8", and electric choke instead of hot air from exhaust manifold. He's got an early one (AFB).

Just looked at your pictures. Nice Original Style AFB Carb, pretty rare, most were the Rochester. Definitely rebuild it, don't replace it with a different one, the starter switch on the throttle shaft is a pretty cool and unique feature.

Yep, carter AFB 4 BBL. the front 2 barrels are covered by the choke plate. The back 2 have a plate on a weighted balance covering them.

A question I have is what is that electric servo looking thing behind the choke?

Also, look at where the bar goes through for the choke. There is metal chipped out on both sides. It seems to work OK but is this thing really worth rebuilding?

I have one that I could send you for little more than shipping. It's off of a 65 Riv. The bottom of the carb is warped, but the top plate is good. Yours should be fine like that, but if you wanna show it, I would replace it.

Does anyone know if my 65 carb top plate will fit his carb?

Judging by the photos, I'd say probably...
I couldn't tell for sure unless I had both parts laying in front of me.

I believe that is where the starter switch is located on those early AFB's.
