I appreciate the input so far guys. Still need an answer to my original question: What are the part numbers stamped on the original sport mirror gaskets?

Pretty sure Duane has originals. Not sure I have ever seen part numbers posted.

We Miami Heat fans spell it "Dwyane".

    HI Smitty

According to my copy of GS by the Numbers, 50th Anniversary Edition, the correct part number is 9827788.

    Cheers

Did anyone try Fusick Olds? They are usually on the money with their stuff. As said before avoid 70 Olds as they are one of a kind. They have a sharp line down the side

About the Buick Sport Mirror Gaskets,
I have been PM'd about these.

I still have an original around, but those parts are all put away so I cannot get to them right now.

Secondly, Buick used only a single part for both sides. Yes, they turned it over so it could be used on the other side. There was never a left or right to these gaskets.

    Sorry I cannot help more.

If anyone has one I bet a guy with a three D printer could make some. Hey they say you can make a gun. How tough can it be. Sounds like a money maker.

Didn’t want to start another sport mirror thread, but came to an odd situation when going through my stash..

Correct sport mirror part numbers according to Duane’s article for a drivers side mirror are 29853 (upper) and 29855 (lower). I pulled apart a mirror assembly today with a 29853 upper dated April 1972, mirror glass (29854) with a February 1972 date code, and a base of 32485. Any ideas into that part number? Not saying it’s correct, but this mirror looks to be original and it seems to be a direct match to my correct 29855. The only difference I see is an “x” cast into the underside of it.

There were other 1972 GM cars besides the Buick and Olds A-bodies that had Sport Mirrors.

It would also make economical sense for GM to use the same top housing and mirror assembly, and only replace the bottom housing to fit another style car.

That might be what you are seeing here.

I think the Camaro's came with sport mirrors, maybe it is one of them.

I just had another thought, 1972 Chevelle's also had an option to have a Driver side only (no passenger side mirror) Sport Mirror. I had one of those cars and know the mirror had a different base then the Buick/Olds mirrors. I would bet that's what it is.

You will probably see an "angle" difference where the mirror would mount to the door.

Makes sense, I’ll mount it when I get to that point and confirm.

Ryans-GSX Have fun, life is short.

According to many people I have talked to including and not limited to eagle eye Tumas himself your exactly right. The top was in fact used on other cars but the base is what is important to get right so that the mirror will sit correctly on the cars.

According to the parts book, the gasket for ‘70 GSX and ‘71/‘72 sport mirrors is 9727788 (Same as printed above). (‘70 GSX mirror assembly is a different part number than ‘71-‘72 but uses the same gasket). Also listed as Accessories are 981770 (L) and 981771 (R)(sport mirror paint to match). I agree that the heads are probably all the same with different pedestals for Firebirds, Camaros, Vegas, etc.

"I agree that the heads are probably all the same with different pedestals for Firebirds, Camaros, Vegas, etc."

That would probably be true, but only to a certain extent, ie the same year cars probably had the same size upper mirror assemblies.

Sometime after the 1972 production year GM went to a wider, as in longer upper mirror assembly, (from side to side). The mirror & upper housings were expanded, so they stuck out further from the car. This made it easier to see, but you cannot substitute the mirror pieces from these mirrors into the 70-72 mirrors, as they are too big.

That is why I included the mirror assembly part numbers in my article, so you would know the correct parts for the mirrors.

The bottom line is this, I have already done all the research on this, and gave everyone the correct numbers to use. If you use anything else................caveat emptor
