I've been trying to get sport mirrors for my 1971 Slkylark. A company I've been ordering parts from called The Parts Place Inc. had them listed for my car paid out 600 Canadian for them plus shipping when they arrived I found they still leaned in towards the window.I phoned them back and they were trying to convince me that they were the right mirror I sent them pictures to prove they were wrong. I even phoned the manufacturer of the mirrors and they said the part numbers on the box were for Camaros and Trans Am. I had to fight with them to get my money back and lost my shipping. They actually don't have sport mirrors for the Skylark is what the manufacturer told me. Buyer beware I guess. Any thoughts I'd appreciate some help

Thanks Ryan! Maybe you could shed some light on an article I read on the Buick performance group website. A fellow by the name of Dwayne Heckman who wrote the article claims 1970 to 1972 Cutlass sport mirrors are identical to the Buick Skylark with the exception the Buick Skylark uses wedged gaskets. Original Parts Group Incorporated has a listing for Cutlass sport mirrors but no listing for Skylark sport mirrors but they do carry the Skylark wedge gasket. I wonder if they would fit also. Any thoughts

Lots of people and places "Claim" they are correct but like you found out when you get them they are far from correct. I am not saying that they don't have the correct mirrors but I would want part numbers to confirm they are the real deal and truly correct and not the old "Well they will work" BS.

If I can't find you some I am sure the members here can.

Thanks again Ryan. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Dwayne Heckman apparently is some kind of Guru with the sport mirrors. In his article he dissected all the casting numbers and he claims the Cutlass casting numbers are the same. Myself I can't say for sure. Anyhow I'll wait to hear if you come up with anything.

If Duane wrote that article (and he did), you can take it to the bank. And yes, he is "some sort of guru" with all things 1970-1972 Buick. He is the one that figured out date codes, build sheet codes, and a ton of other stuff validating everything under the sun with Buick's.

I am afraid the vendor you mention does have this mentality that everything they sell is perfect and correct for our cars. They are not.

Oh, and it's Duane and not Dwayne.

The article is posted on George's site, Buick Performance Club.com:

I put some sport mirrors on my '66 back around 1980. I recall (36 years later!!) I just ground some material off of the mirror riser to make the mirror sit level. Maybe that will work in your case too...

    FYI...............

Only the 1971 and 1972 Cutlass/442 sport mirrors are the same as the 70 -72 Buick mirrors. 1970 Olds mirrors are completely different.

...............and yes, sorry guys but I have no more mirror gaskets left.

My apologies for spelling your name wrong earlier in the thread Duane. I was using voice to text app on my phone which does not work the greatest and I was pretty anxious to get my message out and didn't edit it. Anyhow if I can't locate original Buick sport mirrors I will try and find some 71-72 Cutlass sport mirrors.

    Hi guys,
Newbie here. I have a question in regards to this post so I’m reviving it.

Does any one know the part number(s) stamped on the original passenger side and drivers side gaskets?

I checked out Duane’s post on buickperformanceclub and found a set of mirrors that match all of the numbers. They came off a 72 GTO. I understand only Olds or GS mirrors will work but the base part numbers matched the article. I read a different post saying that Duane want sure if Pontiac mirrors would work.

Since he posted that this gaskets are no longer available I may try to find some originals.

My drivers side gasket shows P/N 9833068 and it is wedged.

I’m going to put these mirrors back together and mock them up.

    Thanks,
    Smitty

I have the correct housings but I dont have the internal mirrors with them. I took apart a lot of sport mirrors back in the day and I guess I lost some of the internal mirrors that worked with them Soooooo If someone needs the housings ( CORRECT HOUSINGS ) PM me and I can get you pics and prices.
