I'll let Chris bask here and post pics & the Sloan docs, etc. but he and I have been communicating/commiserating for a couple of years now over the '70 350 4-sp. cars we sold. I was fortunate enough through word of mouth (I may regret it) to find a very neat/unique one, albeit a basket case (I'll start a thread on it @ some point) which while I know Chris was wishing he'd found, he really kept me psyched on doing the car while I was questioning my sanity (I'm over it now and actually more psyched for it than my Stage 1 4-sp.) & I think we've run down every lead, ad, ads for parts trying to find out what happened to the orig. car, etc. looking for the right one for him and it's definitely a really awesome example that Bob posted the link to (If it only would've had A/C) - I'm glad I spurred Chris to start this thread. So many of these rare cars (844 4-sp.'s or exactly 10% of the 8440 '70 350's made) have been parted, converted to BBB, or as we've found on several occasions, left to rot beyond repair (mine being no exception but fortunately someone realized it was a very unique example). We've probably seen 5:1 '70 Stage 1 4-sp.'s vs. '70 350 4-sp.'s for sale over the past 2 years with nearly all of the 350's in much worse condition. I'm sure Chris will chime in before long and I'm really happy for him that he found this one - Hopefully it's on a transporter by now as I've only seen the pics the seller sent him and can't wait to see more. Fortunately given our small community Chris was able to also speak to a previous owner/board member before finalizing the deal. He's lucky his new bride is a trooper & went into all this with her eyes open.
A little off topic, but I was surprised to hear column shift manual transmission avaialble in a GS---what years besides 69?
No - Chris really wanted A/C but I much prefer low option Buicks. There was a '70 350 4-sp. w/ A/C for sale in NJ (was a thread on here month or two ago), but apparently it sold. I've tried several times to contact the seller. It was a total basket case. '70 GS 350 and '71-71 GS with the base 350 (in '70 the 350 was a distinct model) came standard with a 3-sp. col. shift. I believe that may have still been the case in '73-74, but I'm not the expert on those.
Dan is exactly right - I've been searching for this car for a looong time. I really wanted a blue car with blue or white interior or a green car with a green or white interior. Pretty specific ask, especially with a 4 speed, and a small block. Not only is this car blue over blue, but it's got bucket seats, both consoles, posi, gauges and lightning. It had a black top when new that I maaaay change to white, as it would look just like my old '70 GS455 that was Diplomat/white/white. This car does not have A/C which was my last wish... but finding a 4sp car with A/C and in my color combo was proving to be nearly impossible. This car will also look great next to my gulfstream '70 Sportwagon (white top, blue interior) that I also plan to put a stick in. I'd definitely still snag one of the 49 '70 GS350 column-shift 3 speed cars if I found one... that would be such an oddball I'd have to have it.
